NATIONAL BUDGET FOR 2018 HAS SPECIFIC SUBSIDIES TO CUSHION TRAIN LAW IMPACT, GENERATE TOURISM JOBS

Two Congress leaders cited specific provisions in the 2018 national budget meant to cushion the impact of TRAIN and spur economic growth.

“DSWD has a P1.184 billion Tax Reform Cash Transfer Program allocation aside from the P89.4 billion for the 4Ps program, P19.26 billion for indigent seniors, P3.42 billion for supplemental feeding, and P38.9 million for street children,” Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy said in a statement. She is Assistant Majority Leader and Vice Chair of the House Committee on Women and Children.

She also said that aside from the SUC budgets, CHED has P5.86 billion for Tulong-Dunong grants and incentives, plus P3.9 billion for college faculty taking masteral at doctoral studies as part of the K to 12 Transition program.

“Malaki rin ang budget sa 2018 para sa kalusugan ng mga pamilya. Sa DOH budget naman na P106 billion, P4.34 billion ang pondo para sa indigents at P15.5 billion ang para sa pambili ng mga gamot at bakuna,” Herrera-Dy said.

For his part, Iligan City Representative Frederick Siao said the 2018 budget has at least P34 billion for tourism. “There’s P3 billion for the DOT and P31.97 billion for the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program,” Iligan City Representative Frederick Siao said. He is Vice Chair of the House Committee on Tourism.

“For workers in the tourism sector, the DoT has P160 million for tourism industry training. For the tourism entrepreneurs running hotels, resorts, restaurants and other establishments catering to tourists, the agency has P124 million for standards development and enforcement,” Siao also said.

The congressman added that the Department of Trade and Industry’s Negosyo Centers budget of P514.579 million and shared service facilities funds of P200 million would also have multiplier effects the tourism sector can gain from.

Also favorable to the tourism sector is the National Greening Program of the DENR for which P2.787 billion was allocated, plus the various road and local infrastructure funds of the DPWH. (END)
