Priscilla,
I am no expert in Philippine National Security and I think it would be best to ask others in the forum who are far more experienced, learned and trained in this topic than I. I only spent 5 years of my entire life in the Philippines. 18 years of my life has been in the United States, and am far more accustomed to society in the United States.
One of the reason why I joined Tubag Bohol was to re-connect with my homeland. To which I am very grateful, as a Filipino and an American.
Though I am not an expert in Philippine History and Internal Security, I'll try to answer some of your questions:

The rise of islamofascism in the Philippines, mainly from Southern Mindanao and from the Tawi-Tawi Group is a result of an influx of jihadist rhetoric coming from Malaysia and Indonesia; particularly group members of Islamiyaah Jeremiyah, a terrorist organization whose goals and aims is to establish an 'All Muslim' Malayan State that would include Indonesia, Malaysia and Muslim Philippines.
Basilan is also home to temporary US military bases, to folster and strengthen American and Filipino relations and combat the rising militant islamofascism. The United States understands that the Philippines is strategically located in the center of the Malaccas Straits, on border with the Indian Ocean, the Western Pacific, on the border of the South China Sea and the Sea of Japan. The United States understands that American hegemony in the Pacific relies on warm relations with the Philippines to use bases in the archipelago. This also translates into a political relationship for Manila and Washington.
In order for the United States to maintain warm relations with the Philippines and to ensure the bond, the Philippines must maintain stability. And the United States understands that rising militant islamofasist terrorism is a threat to Philippine Sovereignty and National Stability. That is the reason why both nations hold CARAT Exercises annually, as well as maintain the Visiting Forces Agreement, which has been promulgated ever since the explusion of American Military Forces after the Subic Bay and Clark Air Force Base Incidents in the early 1990's, under the Aquino Administration.
The incidents we have of terrorist bombs in Manila and in Mindanao is nothing but an example of the futility of die hard radical islamofascists and their inability to compromise. They live by an attitude of 'all or nothing'.
The mentality radical islamofascists have, and I mean no offense, are coincidental to those of the middle ages. And belongs in history, in text books, not in the common epoch.
many of Americans hafe fought my dear so that you and I could have a better world. not all wars are senseless are they?
I am a 1st generation Filipino-American. Raised and grew up in the United States. My accent is American, my way of thinking is purely American, and am proud of the red white and blue. Am priviledged to live in a country that has sacrificed its sons and daughters for the freedoms of other peoples and to champion the American Cause abroad.
Which has, been the basis an idol of many developing countries.
So now that you know your country needs professionals and and you are licensed why not come back and practice here in Philippines?
I am not against such an option. I'm very open to someday taking part in Medical Missions.
Regards,
Lorenzo
