Murder in Bohol: Justice Demanded!
« on: September 19, 2007, 04:30:50 PM »
A Forwarded E-mail. We need to verify this info if it were true. Anyone from Maribojoc?

Dear Boholanos,

The intent of this letter is to share with you all the tragedy that
recently happened to my family in Maribojoc, Bohol.  I currently am in
California, but maintain a residence in Bohol and the following information
about the murder of my nephew was provided by my family who currently share
my home in Bohol. My 16 year old nephew was recently murdered near the
church of Maribojoc, Bohol located in front of the municipal building.  The
murder happened at 7:00 o'clock in the evening.  The killer is currently in
the Bohol municipal jail.  My sister, (the victim's mother) visited the
killer in jail and he confessed that he was sorry for killing her son.  He
confessed that he realized he killed the wrong person but his rage couldn't
stop him from stabbing my nephew (11 times). *

My deceased cousin's son named Berne has a 15 year old girlfriend, who
happens to be the daugter of the killer who is currently in jail for the
murder of my nephew Macmac.  Prior to the incident, the girl stayed with
Berne overnight because the girl was afraid to go home because her
father(THE KILLER) had previously beatent her up for having a boyfriend. At
5:30 in the morning (the morining of the murder) Berne woke up Macmac to see
if he could escort him to drop the girl off at her home.  Berne was also
afraid of what her father would do, so figured they would be safer if they
were together.  Later that evening, the furious father was searching for
Berne but unluckily Macmac was walking with a friend.  The father knew that
Macmac was related to Berne so he started chasing him.  Macmac was able to
escape from him but since Macmac knew he was not at fault, he felt obligated
to explain the situation to the father, so he came back and confronted the
father.  As he tried to just speak up for himself, the man lost his temper
and started stabbing Macmac.  My helpless nephew ran for help at the nearby
church but no one was willing to help him.  The man followed and continued
to stab him until he died. There were many people outside and nearby and my
family cant understand why no one helped him. *
**

*The worst part of the story, is the killers representatives are attempting
to justify the murder with a ridiculous story that the mans daughter was
raped by Macmac.  As far as I know the girl has stated that she in fact has
not been raped by anyone although she had already submitted herself to her
boyfriend Berne twice. One of the media outlets in Bohol has already issued
an apology for reporting the incident and accusations without any evidence.
If Macmac had raped the girl or if he knew that she was raped by Bernie why
would he take the girl home to her house? I don't think anyone would take
someone home to their father, after raping their daughter, especially
knowing that the father was very angry about the relationship between *

*Berne and his daughter. These boys would be hiding from him if they did
something bad to his daughter. Macmac was a tiny, innocent young man that
cannot even protect himself.  He was brutally murdered by this man so we
want justice for his death. We already talked to someone in "Imbestigador"
but they cannot do anything yet because the guy is already in jail but will
step in if he will be released.*
**

*I shared this agony to all of you because we want to get justice.  Many
times hard core criminals in the Philippines are not being punished because
of the influencial people that they know or their financial standing in the
community.  It is so unfair to the family that lost love ones, and know one
in Bohol or the rest of the Phillippines should stand for this injustice.
We lost a innocent son (Macmac) because he was(brutally killed) and we lost
Berne because he left Bohol without even saying goodbye fearing for his
life. *
**

*I cannot believe that such a crime could ever happen in our place.  My
father (Segundo/Turcolas family) is from Lagtangon and my mother is from the
next barrio which is Giuanon (Baloria/Balatayo family).  We grew up in
Mindanao but when my father died, we decided to move back to Bohol because
we believe that we would be safe there.  I always loved Bohol since I was
young and wanted to retire there someday but now I don't know if Bohol is
really safe for me and my family .If Boholanos are not willing to stand
together against this type of injustice than they should be ashamed of
themselves   *
**

*Please help me find justice in this case.  I believe that a thorough
investigation should be done in order to get justice for this incident. I
don't want this case to die with my nephew.

Oh...my God  what a tragedy?  I feel sad for the Family of the innocent victim, my condolence for them.  When I read the whole report, I found out that the Murder was too aware of what he did.  It was not only an incident as he stated to the Mother of the victim. It was an unpardonable act not an affect as what he related. In fact, the victim had explained face to face with him and still he continued stabbing him.  What is more very sad and a considered to be a shame was the people was just there curiousity and not even one bothers to help.  Are these the known the so-called friendly Bol-anons?  Or...they were just more afraid of their own life?

To the Uncle who is now in US...just an advice, please let your relatives there in Maribojoc contact a good lawyer (hope nobody knows that someone is abroad-it might be very expensive for you). In my opinion, if the murder demanded justice......how about the dead one?  How about the pains of the mother?  The victim was still very young.  He deserves to have the right penalty and there could be no excuses.

No things here are definitely not better. This country is very much in a crisis. We need a stronger people here to fight for their rights.
We do not need any more lame and listless ducks as these kind of people get nothing accomplished.
I was recently threatend from a wife member of camp dagohoy and SSUP Inking had the person apologize but the way they apologized was through a cell phone?
Crime here is committed easily as the one committing the crime knows the penalty is not stiff enough to fit the crime.
The scenario for me was uncalled for as i was getting a briefing as a favor for Sir Inking and the person in charge of the information has a wife always looking for trouble.
We had burned the CD at the office of the provincial PNP the wife stood outside of the office door with her arm's crossed and giving me and her husband dirty looks .
I went home as soon as I was home the jealous wife text me to ask me what I want with her husband?
Then her husband called me panicking that a gun she had grabbed of his was being pointed at him by her.
I was able to get in touch with SSUP. Inking via my cell phone as he was in Cebu at the time.
I told him what was going on, he was relieved that no one was hurt.
The girl continued to text and threaten me and she was out of line and told me that if I go back to the camp that she would kill me and cut me and put me into a soup?
even she called me names and so on and so forth.
I told SSUP INKING that the wife should have her visiting privileges taken away from her while she's at the camp.
I had my media ID on while at the camp to get the report from the annual inspection.
You talk about a big disrespect to her husband and his work and to the local media,
and all she can do is apologize in a cell phone rather then face me in person.
What kind of punishment is this do you really think the wife will not misbehave again?
I tried my best to be as nice as I could to her during her so called apology.
Its easy to commit or threaten crime here as people here are not severely punished enough for it.
I hope in Maribojoc this case is solved and in the right manner. My sincere condolences to the innocent involved.

please note with in this week another robbery and murder took place in Bohol this time the victim was jogging in Dauis Panglao and apparently was stabbed or shot by his assailant.
The jogger had no funds on him but his cell phone.
Until now the suspect is still at large.
Some foreigners are starting to talk about forming a club that would be open to foreigners and spouses of foreigners to be able to keep up dated on such matters going on and to keep up with one another and to have the crimes translated to us in English as none of the radio stations here have an all English news hour as to whats going on around here.
I feel strongly since this province is becoming more popular with foreigners living and visiting here and we spend allot of our dollars here it would be nice to have an organization to keep the foreigners up to date.

Hello PreciousNepolite,

I am very much affected of the above-written reports you have posted here.  I am very sad of what had happened to our peaceful Bohol before.  I left Bohol for more than the half years of my life and I had it in memories the opposite as much as posted here in this site.  Hence that crimes are considered to be a daily events, this is the answer of the existing poverty in predominance. Basing to the above cited theme above in connection with that lady which you got in trouble-it is a sign of ignorance and a real coward in her side by such reactions.  By the way, it is a good idea for the foreigners who are residing here to be organized of whatever ideas to put on for their safety sake.  For I believe that the concerned who are subject to bring peace and order are might over stressed or not too much interested to undertake any action  for crime reduction for they are of course under paid.  Well, the leaders/high politicians must have to find a better way in solving this problem, otherwise, Bohol is not anymore worthy to live in. I wish you and Family a safety stay here in our country.

Why should they come to the Philippines and take a chance on losing their life, from some idiot that will kill for a cellphone?

A reporter of a major national daily in the Philippines was murdered for a cellphone.

The son of the former president of Silliman University, my alma mater, was gunned down inside his car for the sake of that cellphone.

My grandfather, when my mother was yet 6 months old, was stabbed and hacked to death by two angry brothers who falsely accused him of stealing a fish bait (paon sa pasol). This happened 54 years ago in the city of Pagadian, Zamboanga del Sur.

My grandfather was brutally murdered with many people around watching my grandfather trying to fight off the stabs and hacks. The people were just watching my grandfather bleeding to death, with his face and body already dismembered.

My grandfather's parents brought the crime to the court, but the most painful part of this story was that no one was willing enough to testify that he or she saw my grandfather being killed in broad daylight. All were afraid to witness at the court trial.

According to one of the sisters of my grandfather whom I met for the first time in 2005, she was still a little girl when this murder took place in a village in Pagadian and that she saw how my grandfather was killed by those two wild brothers but she was helpless at that time. She could only weep seeing her brother breathing his last.

The court did not accept the testimony of the sister of my murdered grandfather for a fact that she is a sister of the murdered, thus her testimony is unreliable. Absurd law.

My grandfather, a poet, was murdered and did not receive justice from our Philippine justice system.

it's really sad to know things like that happen in such a very small community. i come from Maribojoc and never in my mind did i expect brutal killing will happen. this shouldn't put people in fear but let us be more aware, careful and learn from their mistakes. anything dealt with hot head and anger will never bring us good.

my condolence to the bereaved family

First of all, my condolences to the family and friends of the victim.

As I have said in my other topics, I believe it is time for private investigators to set an office in Bohol. We have many victims or relatives of the victims who are desperately longing for justice regardless of the amount.

We don't have prosecutors in our justice system, so a criminal may be set free if the victims party is not interested to sue or is afraid to sue or financially incapable to sue in 24 hour.

Unlike the US, there are countless "prosecutors" who are like bloodhounds constantly sniffing. Even a hundred year old case shall be re-opened just for the sake of justice.

Franklin is right, we need psychologists to forecast character traits that leads to committing heinous crimes like stabbing 7 times, I mean that is overkill, extreme rage. Maybe we could incorporate anger management in our education system.

Maybe schools must have professional psychologist who could detect a possible cold blooded murderer or someone with uncontrollable rage and treat that at an early stage. Who knows that we might have thousands of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Bohol who coldbloodedly kills for passion.

Another cause of murder in Bohol is intoxication. I am happy to be here in Saudi Arabia, a dry country (I mean no alcoholic beverages sold in stores).

my heart bleeds for the family and relatives of the victim.  i cannot help but reflect to what happened to my father 45 years ago ( he was murdered at the young age of 32 kay gi-a an , pinagkamalan of having an illicit affair with the wife of the killer ).  I was a tiny 4 years old then with my 2 sisters at 2 years old and the other at 9 months.  My mother was widowed at the same age as my father.

Though justice was served having the killer spent 25 years in Muntinlupa, this was not enough to pay for the hardships we've gone through especially for my mother who as a single parent brought us to what we are now.

Through the years I've overcome to inflict vengeance...though maybe we've forgiven but it's not forgotten.  I have seen the killer face to face after spending his sentence... and I don't have any feeling at all towards this person...

God has His plans...after our pains, we harvested successes. All I could say is I pitied the family who killed my father ( kay looy kaayo ang nanghitabo sa ilang mga anak og pamilya ).

All I could do is only sigh...what life would be with my father around.... we haven't seen nor felt the warmth cuddle of our father... but we felt the abundant blessings from our Heavenly Father....

I had written a column just as the crimes began even was released two days prior to Jack's murder. It had to do with exactly on the same bounds of what Mackey Ferniz stated in his above blog.
The system is screwwed up here. It should not be the victims or the private citizens to press charges and sue the living day lights out of persons who are just evil doers to the law.
In America the state, county, or federal government will be the one's to prosecute and charge the case and also will detain the suspect until trial or a bail has been set.
The suet of the victim or the family comes after the case once they are found guilty.
This is how America has money as crimes done are paid to the criminal justice system and that money is put into public services.
Fixxing roads, posting traffic signs higher salary for police to keep on doing a great job.
Making public more acessable towards handicapped persons to get around in.
Maintaining law and order and keeping electric traffic signals modern and updated.
Helps to keep our parks and lakes clean, and it has more people put to work.
Here? Whats going on? Why is it that our system here in the Philippines be same as that as back in the states?
Here you can get away with murder. Thats why people do it as they know its easy to do and no punishment involved not like back in the states.

Right on target Franklin! Good to see you blogging as I am currently doing.  There was another murder in Dauis this week also. Another cell phone robbery and the guy was stabbed I heard several times or either shot? I have not seen the news myself just hear say.
The person was jogging in the early morning hours. This morning at 0430 am alaylakad will take place for many young students to get out and take a walk as a mandatory assignment for their school on whats is to be a rest day and then on Saturday they had test reviews the schools are hard on the students here. no break often or rest day.
I just wish them all a safe walk in about two hours from now.

Does the brand of the cellphone matter?

Maybe people should reconsider using the old Nokia 3210 or 5110, then.

Hmmmm, C2H4 is that a joke?

Half and half. I was half-serious when I said that.

The Nokia 3210 was the only cellphone I've ever owned in the Philippines, and while my friends were getting their fancy camera phones stolen left and right, no one even bothered to steal mine. I'm just saying it might be a good idea.

But what about the recent study revealing that cellphones are loaded with millions of bacteria and infective microorganisms?

Marketing a cellphone that doubles as a vibrator is not a very healthy idea.

Just my two cents.

On the other hand, there are people who like living on the edge. They might like this kind of phone.

Ok, back to the topic.

What can we do to be proactive in our response on the increasingly higher incidence of cell phone snatching?

I was a little surprised you would make a joke in this thread where it was mentioned that someone was stabbed or killed for his cellphone.
I guess that killing someone for a cellphone has become so commonplace that people joke about it.

Mr Franklin, I did not mean to joke. I'm sorry if it came off that way. That was callous of me.

Murder is not something to laugh about. I had a classmate in high school who was stabbed to death for her cellphone, and I was righteously outraged.

But being a man of the world, as I assume you are, you should also know that people have killed for much less.

Like that man in NY who pushed a teenage girl at the subway for apparently no reason at all. Or that man in Cebu who stabbed another person because he didn't like the way the other person looked. Or that man in Manila who stabbed (with an icepick) the person next to him in the jeepney because he couldn't stand the other person's body odor. How about that au pair who shook a baby to death because the baby wouldn't stop crying? How about the man who killed Jon Bennet Ramsey? who knows what his reason was for killing her...Or how about Hitler, killing off the Jews?

I will never joke about these things. But I also acknowledge that the world is as it is, and people are who they are. Mr Franklin, if you stress yourself out every time a crime happens, you will give yourself a heart attack. And that in itself is a crime, because Tubag Bohol will have lost a brilliant mind.

People have always killed and murdered each other. And we will continue to kill and murder each other until North Korea's crazy leader lets loose his nuclear toys and blows the world to bits. Or until Jesus' second coming. Whichever comes first.

Mike,
It happened in Mabini, Bohol.  There were also stories that the death of my father was politically motivated as he was active then in politics (being an ABC President)... even composed songs for campaign sorties for the Liberal Party... my analysis, they correlate the issue of alleged infidelity with politics...

Jun,

Reading your story is too painful for me. My would-be wife's father was a soldier who was killed during a gun battle in Jolo, Sulu, and my gf's mother was left alone raising four children.

I just don't know how to describe the pain that your mother has gone through during those times.

And I don't know how I would react if I would meet a killer - that is if I were in your shoes.

for us who were toddlers then could not figure out what really happened,as we grew, it was a life of survival with no time left for vengeance... my mom had labored much for us... hence, i took the responsibility to be the head of the family.

we've gone difficult times that prompted us to move to Anda with my mom's relatives. With prayers and determination,we've surmounted the trials.

All I could say to the victims of these murders, have acceptance to the fate that transpired...don't let your dreams end with your loved one's departure...fighting justice is to give light to others and prevent the same encounter... "vengeance is not mine, God will take care the rest..."

Not meaning to chastise you C2H4, just was surprised.

Also 2 wrongs don't make a right.(your mention of those other sins)

Oh, but I was merely trying to point out that some people are crazy. Crazy people, anywhere in the world, don't even need a reason to kill. They just do. The Filipinos are no exception. There are some crazy filipinos out there. Are you American? I'm sure there are crazy Americans too...(e.g. Britney Spears)

But I am with you on this, Mr Franklin. I am righteously outraged. But I choose to channel my rage in my own way. It might not suit other people's sensibilities, the way I react to things, but it doesn't make me wrong. Or right. It just makes me who I am.

With regards to this 16 yr old boy who was killed, at least the suspect is in custody. He has confessed. And that accusation about the boy raping the girl? The medico legal who'll examine her will soon shed light on this. I believe justice will be served this time. The killer will be punished.
