More OFWs Return to Bohol Lifeless
« on: July 22, 2008, 03:23:34 PM »
By Ven Arigo
Bohol Chronicle

Three more overseas workers have followed the recent ill fates suffered by their fellow Boholanos in the Arab lands and neighboring Asian countries.

One returned home dead yesterday. Another will get back also lifeless tomorrow. The third was raped and is arriving tonight.

The wish of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Argeo Gulay Bumotad to live to the time when all his three children shall have succeeded in their studies has died with him.

The lifeless body of the 43-year-old oil refinery foreman in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from Guindulman was met by his grieving wife Marigel and kids Glenn Jes, Jerson Paul and Jiether at the Tagbilaran City port yesterday afternoon.

Glenn Jes just graduated his marine engineering and Jerson will finish marine transportation in March next year while the youngest is still in elementary grade. The Bumotads reside at Tamblot Street here.

The OFW was reported to have died of cardiac arrest caused by heat stroke in Tunda, his specific Saudi job site, last June 12 but his remains were not released since his family here initially wanted his corpse autopsied.

Rep. Edgar Chatto facilitated the return of dead Bumotad and even had an office staff accompanying the family in meeting the remains of the OFW at the city port.

But hours to Bumotad corpse's arrival, Chatto got a request for help to facilitate the transport also to Bohol of one more dead OFW named Ricardo Omas-as, a Loaynon who worked in Semporna, East Sabah, Malaysia.

Omas-as reportedly died in prison few months ago but his remains had not been repatriated until the First District congressman learned of the OFW's case.

The OFW, 40 and unmarried during his death, had been almost half a year jailed for alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl whose nationality was yet to be ascertained.

Omas-as' remains will arrive here tomorrow.

He is the fifth OFW from Bohol after Bumotad who would return home dead this year.

Chatto already arranged the Bumotad remains' transport, including funeral car service here.

The third latest case of returning OFW involves a 30-year-old married OFW from Tagbilaran City who was raped in Kuwait where she worked as a domestic helper.

Nelle (not her real name) was raped by an Arab police officer who threatened to tear her passport apart should she not go with him to his house.

The lawman was described as a victim's "sponsor," not her employer.

Nelle sought assistance from the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait and was later brought to the office there of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The crime of flesh was committed by the police officer against the Boholana maid already months ago.

Nelle yearned to be immediately repatriated to the Philippines but her flight was cancelled thrice for yet unknown reason.

Her sister sought help from Chatto, who immediately contacted OWWA and other agencies here, even the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.

There are no clear details yet on how did she met her sexual attacker and why her passport had gone to the possession of the police officer.

Nelle then kept to herself her ordeal, thinking she could manage be her own in that situation.

Later on June 28, her sister informed Chatto in a letter that Nelle "was in jail."

Her sister lamented why Nelle suffered from such a consequence when she is the victim in the first place.

Finally, Chatto got assurance from Ambassador Endaya that Nelle would be repatriated and flown to Manila aboard Kuwait Airways today.

She is the second Boholana OFW repatriated from an Arab country after being subjected to the cruelty of the sex-starved.

Peak of the summer dire sa mong dapit.

Toa karon nag duwa bisan pirteng inita. Nangapuwa lang ang nawng.

Lorenzo, I want to asked you some medical advice, A friend of mind collapsed during our games, I though its a cardiac arrest, so I pumped his heart (CPR) and bring him to the emergency Hospital. An hour later, He was dismissed seemed had nothing happened. late night, it happened again. He was brought a good clinic and diagnosed that he has a tumor or lump on his brain. Between the lobes, that why he has seizure. The tumor is growing so its impinged his brain and that cause to trigger seizures.

My question is, is there any chance He can survive the operation. The Doctor said its safe to operate because it is located from the outer side, drill a hole then vacuum suck the fluid or used lacer to destroy the lump.

Do think it will not damaged some part of the brain? How often is the attack on this kind of case?

Thank

Rald

Mr. Raldampong,

To my best of knowledge I would probably think that your friend probably has something call Astrocytoma, which is a malignant, or cancerous, type of brain tumor. This type of tumor arises from small, star-shaped cells in the brain called astrocytes. It is a subtype of a larger group of tumors called gliomas. Astrocytoma is the most common form of glioma and may occur anywhere in the brain. However, it is most commonly found in the cerebrum in adults, and in the cerebellum, brainstem, and optic nerves in children.

The typical symptoms of Astrocytoma are:

     Headaches
     Visual changes
     Vomiting
     Seizures
     Personality changes
Problems with memory, thinking, and concentration
     Problems with walking

Your friend must make sure he sees the correct neurologist; as in seek the consultation of 2 or more neurologist instead of only 1. From your response, it seems that he has the advanced form; he must make sure to get an MRI scan, CT scan, Angiogram, as well as biopsy and resection. To make sure the prognosis/diagnosis is correct.

Mr. Rald,

There will always be complications that arise from neuro surgical operations in the removal of a cancerous tumor. It depends on the location of the tumor. The following are basic relation and affects:

Frontal lobe—gradual changes in mood and personality, paralysis on one side of the body
Temporal lobe—problems with coordination, speech, and memory
Parietal lobe—problems with sensation, writing, or fine motor skills
   Cerebellum—problems with coordination and balance.
Occipital lobe— problems with vision, visual hallucinations

Any damage to these particular lobes will cause manifestations to arise. Any damage to cerebral spinal fluid will also lead to the rise of internal homeostatic change.

Infection, as always, is a concern that will manifest when opening the skull. So long as your friend is not immuno-compromised, there should be no secondary or tertiary infection.

Once again, I am only a medical student and not a practicing physician. My knowledge on this matter is not complete. I highly suggest your friend to seek the consult of 2 or more neurologist for proper diagnosis and prognosis.

God Speed to your friend.

Thank you Pare for this very informative explanation.  Be my Physician in the future...that if we will be living for good in our very own Philippines  puhon-puhon ha? I had visited a good Neurologist after the Eye Dr. specialist forwarded me for further examination due to "visual changes findings". But....thanks God there was no schocking findings, instead I was again given to another brain Dr. specialist for MRI scan, CT scan and other thorough physical examinations. Negative results in terms of any brain disturbances/tumor and others. Now, I must have to see my Eye specialist every 3 mos. for a successive check-ups.  I must have to pay a part for myself some other tests includes OKT (Optische Koharenz Tumographie) which I had submitted twice already. Sus....it  is not easy getting tigolsnagjod oi! Ug tua pas ato....haskang purdoya na!  Na hala Pare....pahangyo-a unya ko sa Dr. fees nimo whahahaha Pastilan! You have nothing to worry I will not pay with "Itlogs"  ;D

Again...thank you very much for being here in TB with your brillant views from your successive studies.  You are a great TB knowledged enrichment! God be with you always!  Be a good boy always to your girls ha?

Mr. Rald,

Of course, my friend, I truly sympathize for you and your friend and his family. Life, especially that of a friend, is a special one. And I pray that the good Lord will provide a good prognosis and diagnosis for your friend through a physician in Manila.

I did forward this question to my friend AJ, who has greater knowledge about this than I--he is a 2nd year and has already started his clinical clerkship. Typical kono ang manifesations of glioma in adult males; particularly in the form of the subtype astrocytoma. Your friend was wise to seek consult; and it will probably come down to surgical removal of the malignant tumors.

Mr. Rald,

I just want to tell you that you are such a good man and individual to worry of your friend. Don't stress about it too much, my friend, as your friend will be in good hands in Manila. All that we can do now is just hope and pray that your friend is given an excellent consultation in Manila. And that the surgical operation goes smoothly and safely. It is all in God's hands now.

Please be calm, and be strong for your friend.

The power of prayer, in times like these, works wonders, my friend. :)

God Bless,

Mr. Rald,

Of course, my friend, I truly sympathize for you and your friend and his family. Life, especially that of a friend, is a special one. And I pray that the good Lord will provide a good prognosis and diagnosis for your friend through a physician in Manila.
