Eight fishermen from Loon are now safe after a Japanese fishing vessel fished them out, reports from the local Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) bared.
If information upon which the recent certification of a barangay official in Pangasinan is based is true, the Boholano fishermen from Looc, Cabilao Island in Loon town are now in Japan.
According the Germinal Barangay Chairman Romeo Celeste, the Boholanos had temporarily settled in his barangay in Bolinao town as fishermen before the incident.
However, while on a fishing expedition at the South China Sea on the heat of the typhoon Rolly, their boat sank, November 9.
The fishermen, identified as Carmelito Lapez, 29 married boat operator, Glen Silva, 25 single, Angelito Najaro, 46 single, Jayson Consejeros, single, Danilo Labesores, single, Manuel Sungcoa. 26, Elmer Perges, 28 and Renato Peñaranda were on board F/B Richard when it capsized.
With their failure to return, they have been reported missing in Bolinao town.
Recently however, information reaching Chairman Celeste stated that the fishermen have survived and are in custody of the officers and men of a foreign fishing vessel.
In his certification dated November 14, 2008, Chairman Celeste said F/B Richard owners Leonidez / Edith Catacutan obtained reliable information about the missing fishers’ whereabouts.
The Catacutans are Germinal residents.
According to the information, the fishermen have been in custody of a Japanese vessel; Torben Spirit, one operated by Teekay Shipping Corporation.
