Bohol’s tourism industry is expected to improve following the completion of the 2nd Phase of its circumferential road rehabilitation project recently. The P1.5-billion road project, funded under the Japanese Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC), was first integrated into the Regional Development Plan 2004-2010 by Bohol Governor Erico B. Aumentado to improve access to the different tourist destinations in the island province.
To recall, the first phase, which was completed earlier, covers the 124-kilometer stretch from Calape to Candijay on the island’s northern coastline.
Phase II, which covers the 136-kilometer stretch from Calape to Valencia on the northern coastal route, was completed last April. Implemented under the Arterial Road Links Development Project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the project included the rehabilitation of 46 bridges located within that road stretch.
A month before its completion, the Regional Development Council (RDC) passed another resolution endorsing Phase 3 of the project which is intended to rehabilitate the road networks of the provincial capital and the other towns of the eastern coast, including that of Panglao island.
Once implemented, the project is expected to decongest the roads of the provincial capital and the adjacent towns and facilitate a faster movement of people and services in these areas.
The Bohol Circumferential Road Project is part of the government’s thrust to improve the transportation facilities in Central Visayas to facilitate trade and boost the region’s tourism industry.
