Bohol Chronicle

The family of the two "chop-chop" victims finally came face to face with the three suspects in the brutal killing of their kin as charges of double murder was filed at the Office of the Prosecutor in Talisay City yesterday afternoon.

Senior Inspector Romeo Santander , chief of the Minglanilla PNP in Cebu told the Chronicle that Richard
Gudelosao, 27, and two accomplices Joseph Cellar, 23, and Jean Antonette Medalle, 26, were formally charged with double murder based on their extra-judicial confessions of killing and cutting up Ma. Eva Mae Peligro, 24, and her cousin Gwendolyn Balasta, 22, in their Talisay City home last Thursday.

The victims are both from Poblacion, Sierra Bullones while Gudelosao is from Pilar town.

Even if Gudelosao and Cellar are now blaming each other as to who is really responsible in the gruesome killing of Peligro and Balasta, police are confident both will be convicted of the crime based on their confessions, Santander said. The suspects were reportedly under the influence of marijuana.

"Pinning each other would only strengthen the case," according to Santander, as both will have "the same culpability of the crime as they already admitted to chopping off and disposing the body parts of the victims."

As of yesterday, Santander said they already recovered 12 of the 13 bags that contained the chopped up body parts leaving only 1 bag still unrecovered which contained the arms of one of the victims, Santander said.

"We have matched the body parts according to the complexion of the victims," he added.

Medalle's charges could be lowered as accessory to commit the double murder as there was no evidence to her direct participation to the killing and cutting of the victims' body parts.

It was last Thursday that Gudelosao and the two accomplices chopped off Peligro, a fiancée of his brother, and her cousin Balasta.

The suspects were apprehended by the Minglanilla PNP last Saturday, two days after they committed the crime.

In their confession, the suspects admitted they cut up the victims' bodies with a kitchen knife and placed them in 13 garbage bags which they threw separately in the mountain barangays of Toledo, Naga, Talisay and Minglanilla.

Gudelosao, a taxi owner-driver, told police that he committed the crime as Peligro, a fiancée of his younger brother, passed on intrigues to his brother and mother in the United States which was the reason for stopping his monthly allowance.

The remaining unrecovered body parts are said to be in barangay Manipis, Talisay City as pointed out by Gudelosao who accompanied PNP-Soco (Scene of the Crime Operatives) in the recovery operations.

Last Sunday, the Talisay City PNP recovered a garbage bag which contained the torso of one of the victims which was found below a 50-foot ravine.

It was also last Sunday that relatives of the victims from Sierra Bullones went to identify their remains at a funeral home in Talisay City.

The suspects were supposed to be brought to the Police Regional Office in Camp Sergio Osmeña, Cebu City last Sunday. However, Regional Police Director CSupt. Ronald Roderos instructed that charges be filed first at the Talisay City Prosecutor.

"Officially, the case is closed because the apprehended suspects have already admitted to the crime and appropriate charges have been filed," Santander said.

Yesterday, authorities were also asked by neighbors of the victims to check the septic tank of Peligro's house where they could trace a foul smell.

Police investigators said there is reason to believe that the crime was planned by the suspects due to Gudelosao's anger towards Peligro.
