www.boholchronicle.comFaulty electrical wirings started a fire that totally razed an old building of Balilihan Central Elementary School noontime yesterday.
The Magsaysay-type school building, one of the oldest classroom models constructed in public schools, housed 5 classrooms, three of
which were already used as stockrooms.
According to the school's principal, Faustino Toradio, they estimated the damage at P750,000 excluding the value of old books that were used in the school's old library.
The blaze, which started around 12:45 p.m., was immediately contained by responding fire trucks from the Tagbilaran City Fire Station.
When the fire hit, all of the 24 students who were using the classrooms were taking their lunch break. Only three of the students were able to take home their bags. The rest were all lost to the flames.
According to Toradio, they have cut-off electrical connections going to the three old classrooms per advice of the fire department.
However, the electrical connection was restored last month.
Fortunately, the old building was separated from other buildings of the school preventing the fire to spread.
Toradio said he already reported the incident to first district Rep. Edgar Chatto who assured him that he will send representatives of the DPWH to estimate costs of constructing new classrooms.
The incident came less than a day after Alona Land Resort in Tawala, Panglao was also razed by fire Monday night.
