A
robbery numbering three each day spicing the pages of the police blotter paints the dooming Chiaroscuro of a crime city in the making with the nearby tourist island of Panglao as constant alternative target whenever the loot from Tagbilaran fails to suffice.
In all the reports, hold-up suspects uniformly fired their pistols of undetermined caliber to threaten the victims.
Last Friday alone, two masked men armed with a pistol and knife carted away P100,000 cash from a 55-year-old German national upon the latter's arrival at his house in barangay Danao in Panglao at around 9 pm.
The suspects apparently waited for the victim to return home.
The victim, Manfred Wilhelm, had barely gotten off from his motorcycle when the suspects pushed him with poked gun and knife and forced him to lead them to the master's bedroom where they took the P100,000 cash.
The suspects fled with victim's motorcycle heading towards the Poblacion area, but fired twice before leaving.
A little earlier on the same night, a lone suspect attacked three employees of Island City Mall while traveling on a motorcycle along a secluded section of B. Inting Extension near the City Hall and TESDA office.
The suspect snatched the bag of one the three victims, Lyra Mae Sarabia, who said her bag only contained P50 cash, cellphone, make-up kit and her ID. But they were terrified upon hearing the burst of gunfire occurring almost simultaneous to the snatching.
Sarabia, 24, a resident of Tamblot St. was with co-workers Irene Gulay, 19, of Gallares St and Luis Galao, 29.
Galao gave them a ride as they were heading to the same direction. Barely reaching 500 meters from ICM , the suspect took the fun time from them and replaced it with fear.
In panic, the three crashed into the bushes by the roadside and lost sight of the suspect when they regained control of themselves.
Galao sought assistance from the city police who immediately cordoned the area to prevent the suspect from fleeing with no success.
They last saw the suspect, clad in dark jacket with hood, fleeing to the portion of the road covered with bamboo.
Sarabia sustained bruises on her arms.
At around 2 pm a day earlier, there was an attempted hold up at the Palawan Pawnshop in Maribojoc .
The lone suspect calmly strode towards the cashier's window, then threw a cloth at the cashier almost simultaneously as he pointed a gun at the cashier and declared a "hold up".
A client, oblivious to the ongoing crime attempt, suddenly popped from inside the pawnshop-catching the suspect by surprise.
When he looked back at the cashier, he was gone.. He just hid underneath the table.
Frustrated, the suspect left with nothing.
Witnesses described the suspect as "mestizo".
In reports of other hold-up victims in previous days and weeks, including cases of burglary, the suspects had all been described as armed with guns even with the prevailing gun ban.
