The Bohol ChronicleBohol Gov. Erico Aumentado blocked the assignment here of a ranking regional official of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) based in Cebu to replace newly designated Joel Maloloy-on as registrar of the Tagbilaran licensing office.
The stand of the governor came as reports bared that Jose Ruperto Remullo, the current LTO regional operations division chief, will be assuming this week as the new city LTO registrar.
Remullo is reportedly under investigation together with other LTO officials by the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG) in connection with the registration of “hot cars†from Japan and Korea seized by the government after being allegedly smuggled through the Cebu City port.
The governor, after his call to Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Reynaldo Berroya, said he will “not allow Bohol to be the dumping ground of government officials who are under investigation for alleged anomalous transactions.â€
He was assured by Berroya yesterday that the assignment of Remullo here will be re-evaluated.
Aumentado told the Chronicle that he will protect the province from any unscrupulous operations from any government line agencies particularly those involving the much publicized “hot cars†found or registered in the neighboring province of Cebu.
Maloloy-on told the Chronicle yesterday that he will be promoted to the regional LTO office as acting chief of the operations division. He will be swapping post with Remullo and will become part of the management advisory team formed to assist in the investigation of the registration of smuggled vehicles shipped through Cebu.
Maloloy-on was quick to deny that Remullo was among the LTO officials being investigated despite the fact that the latter is being demoted one rank lower – from being regional operations head to being a district office registrar.
According to reports, Remullo drew the ire of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña who asked for his transfer because of complaints from the public.
LTO offices in Cebu City, Toledo City and Mandaue City are investigated for allegedly registering smuggled cars.
