Provincial Jail Warden Reynan Torreon recently confirmed his relief from duty last May 18, a day after three inmates bolted the Bohol District Jail. He is now on floating status at the Regional Office of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Cebu.
Senior Inspector Richard Laure replaced Torreon as the new provincial jail warden.
Torreon was the first to go after the governor hinted during the weekly radio program, Kita ug ang Gobernador, last Friday that heads will roll following the escape of three inmates on Thursday last week that was attributed to the guards’ remiss in their duties.
SGO4 Christopher Gablines identified the three escapees as Exequiel Aniscal, 50, of Barangay San Vicente, Maribojoc; Brian Ceniza, 23, of Barangay Napo, Inabanga; and Mario Llaya, 23, of Barangay Tambuan, Carmen.
Aniscal is facing charges of robbery with homicide, while Ceniza is facing charges of illegal possession of firearms, murder, carnapping and highway robbery; and Llaya is facing charges of robbery with intimidation of person.
Ceniza and Llaya were later killed in a shootout early evening on May 22 when they resisted arrest.
The footage from the CCTV camera showed that the three, oblivious to everyone in the compound, left the busy crowd rehearsing for the graduation of the alternative learning program at around 2 p.m. Thursday which was also the schedule for visiting hours.
They went to the sentinel area at Gate 6 and disarmed four jail officers after poking a gun at Jail Officer 1 Jose Jomar Torreon and took his .45 caliber service firearm. They then headed to Gate 2 and took the 9-mm service firearm of Senior Jail Officer 3 Menard Bompat.
They immediately fled on a getaway vehicle parked outside the jail with the key in it already.
Torreon, who was in Cebu City during the incident, said the jail officer monitoring the CCTV camera could have sounded the alarm to warn the jail guards at post 2 and post 1 after Aniscal’s group disarmed the four jail officers at the sentinel area at Gate 6.
Torreon suspects that some jail guards are involved in sneaking in the .45-caliber pistol that Aniscal used.
