The close-knit German community, led by Hans Schoof, called the couple's murder as a "dastardly act" which deserves the full attention of the entire justice system so that the criminals will be "made to suffer the penalty".

German émigrés in Bohol are calling on Gov. Erico Aumentado and the police for the immediate prosecution of suspects in the killing of German national Helmut Malinka and wife Eutiquia Missiona who were murdered April 13 inside their residence in barangay Laya, Baclayon town.

The close-knit German community, led by Hans Schoof, called the couple's murder as a "dastardly act" which deserves the full attention of the entire justice system so that the criminals will be "made to suffer the penalty".

Around 30 German expatriates, together with their families, attended the Malinkas' funeral rites last Sunday which was preceded with a motorcade starting from the couple's house in Baclayon going to Loboc Church.

The Malinkas were laid to rest at the Loboc Catholic Cemetery.

Schoof, in a statement during the burial rites, said that the loss of their friends (Malinka couple) is even made more painful "because of the tragedy that befell [the couple]."

He said the German community in the province is offering their commitment to work with the authorities and those in the private sector to ensure that the perpetrators of the double murder will be arrested.

The German expats also committed to work with the private sector in the province "towards a more harmonious relationship," according to Schoof, as "it is only through mutual respect and concern" that a peaceful coexistence is achieved.

Meanwhile, SSupt. Edgardo Ingking, in an interview with the Chronicle yesterday, said the police force is giving special attention to the case.

As far as their case against the lone suspect is concerned, the couple's house-help Virginia Saluta now in police custody, SSupt. Ingking disclosed that they have now gathered additional testimonies from the Malinkas' neighbors that would strengthen the case against the helper.

Presently, investigations point that the suspects who aided the maid in committing the crime are not from Bohol, SSupt. Ingking disclosed.

Police are now pursuing leads the helper's accomplice, SSupt. Ingking added.

Saluta is charged with 2 counts of homicide and robbery filed last April 18 at the Provincial Prosecutor's Office. The preliminary investigation is set on Wednesday to be presided by Provincial Prosecutor Macario Delusa. Saluta is presently detained at the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) in Camp Dagohoy.

SSupt. Ingking said that they are still awaiting results of laboratory tests of other physical evidences recovered at the couple's house.

The Malinkas were murdered early morning of April 13. Helmut was hogtied in his bedroom with 8 stab wounds with blunt lacerations to the head while Eutiquia was found in a separate bedroom also stabbed twice to the chest.

The house helper had claimed the robbers also tied her up before going after the couple. After having freed herself, she reported the incident to police.

Bloodstained clothes were recovered by police at the helper's quarters. (Kit Bagaipo)
