Sun Star Cebu
In 2010, Martin Slisans swam 22 kilometers from Libertad to Moalboal. This May, he wants to do one better by swimming 34 kilometers from Bohol to Argao.
Slisans, 36, who is from Latvia, moved to Moalboal three years ago after falling in love with the beautiful countryside town.
He owned a diving business in Latvia and is now working as a scuba instructor in one of the resorts in Moalboal. He considers his adopted town to have one of the best diving spots among the 50 countries that he has visited.
“I want to promote Cebu and the Philippines to the world with this attempt I will be making,†said Slisans, who is planning to seek the support of the Department of Tourism for this endeavor.
Slisans added that this time, he will be using a specialized suit because the last time he did it, the skin on his back peeled off and he developed hypothermia for being in the water for so long.
Slisan said that he will start by 4 a.m. and expects to finish the grueling swim in 17 hours provided the current won’t be that strong.
“I will be waiting for him in Argao,†said his doting wife Laura.
