First Swine Flu Victim in Bohol?
« on: June 05, 2009, 07:41:53 PM »
By Rey Anthony Chiu
PIA - Bohol

Acting Governor Julius Caesar Herrera is now asking concerned Boholanos to report the whereabouts of a Boholana who may be unknowingly spreading swine flu infection now.

The possible carrier who may not have followed the self-quarantine procedures implemented for persons who entered the country during the reported swine flu outbreak went to a party recently.

She has been at large and is freely moving about, following a few days of hospital treatment regimen at a hospital in the city, and Herrera wants the possible carrier to be contained as soon.

Herrera hinted that the patient could be spreading the virus, which can be transmitted by physical contact and the danger spreads daily with the patient freely moving.

Herrera, who sits at the Capitol top post for the governor who is on official state visit said he received reports baring that the regional health authorities have learned of the positive tests conducted by the Regional Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for the OFW Boholana patient.

The overseas foreign worker patient reportedly came from Qatar and went home last May 24.

She later complained of fever and has to be admitted at the Borja Clinic where, Herrera said, she underwent tests and had her laboratory samples taken to the Alabang Institute for test confirmation.

The patient whose name is currently withheld, gave out her address as upper JA Clarin St. in Tagbilaran City and Koinonia Hill in Sungcolan Dauis.

During a radio interview Thursday, Herrera said unluckily, before the tests results were sent back to the Bohol health facility, the hospital has released the patient.

It was however not reported if the cause of the hospital release was due to patient recovery.

The RITM is the only facility in the country that can test and validate the positive infection of the swine virus, explains Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Reymoses Cabagnot Friday.

This too as the Department of Health has raised he alarm over the 29 reported cases of influenza A (H1N1) or commonly called swine flu.

While the PHO said mortality incidence for swine flu is less than 1 % per thousand, he stressed that Boholanos should practice basic hygiene to keep from the infection.

In the country, Health secretary Francisco Duque stressed that in all of the confirmed cases, patients manifested only with mild symptoms reflecting the general trend and behavior of the virus in other affected countries.

He also said, “We do not want a disproportionately destructive global scare from a virus that has thus far only shown mild symptoms in most of the cases that we are seeing in affected countries. We do not need that at this at a time of great economic crisis and uncertainty.  But at the same time, we should not also underestimate the potential of the virus to become more severe in the future.”

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Influena A-H1 N1 I was told she was a migrant from Southern California.

The one telling me the news also treid to confirm it with other political figures and public servants but he felt due to theyre interest in making tourist dollars here it is why some where relutant to comment or felt it was better not to admit that there wasa case in Bohol.
Regardless with such a dangerous case as this and i would not say any virus that is considered as fatal is considered as mild in any circumstances as this is an airborne virus.

Each of us should look to his left and to his right and check if somebody has a flu. If we notice somebody coughing or looking sick with fever or something,  DISCRIMINATE him/her right away and shout "swine flue"  pointing fingers to him/her...  If all people do it this way, we will all be safe!

And why withheld the name of the person? Stupid hierarchical damage-management ageyn. Release the name of the person whether confirm infected or not.

In last night's news, the DOH did a "mia culpa mea maxima culpa" admission for their delayed result of the test that caused the Borja Clinic to release the patient ahead.

So with this mess caused by DOH's inaction, the ball is now thrown to our provincial leadership to institute measures to contain the possible spread of the virus.  So I hope our provincial leadership is not just dreaming of having a modern international airport in panglao.  I hope they're not just passive beneficiaries of the tourism boom.  They must show us now their proactive measures against this kinds of treat that goes with the influx of tourists in our province.

Is it true? swine flu can now be contracted
by just reading any article about it?  ;D

Swine flu fever, forever!

No need to unnecessarily panic. Let's all keep our cool. Build up our resistance to fight infection. That means eating healthy food, taking a healthy lifestyle...

... going to bed early  (so log out early from Tubag Bohol)

which you can compensate by waking up early (so early log in to TuBo, our favorite forum site)  ;D

According to some long time dr's here in the province of Bohol they beleive that the Denge fever is far more dangerous then the swine flu virus.

The one sickness that still does not have much medicine involved for combatting it.

Two days ago it was media man Kit Bagaipo who was the one first contacted in the media to find out about the virus.

Kit was able to get things confirmed by the cebu D.O.H. as he was having a difficult time getting anyone to confirm the case here in Bohol.

Kit Bagaipo was the one who informed Vice Governer Herrera and got the ball of fire to appear for everyone to know about it.

A lot of credit goes to media man Kit Bagaipo for his concern and efforts to the local people living here and to the tourism here.

Kit was able to take the time and send me many text messages so that we in the media could get the warning out to as many persons as we could.

Thanks for reading.

The weird thing about this virus, like the 1918 flu, is that the people with the healthiest immune systems are most in danger.  For these people the immune response is too strong, causing damage in the lungs to such an extent that they fill with fluid and cause the victim to drown!
Perhaps the cure is, once you think you have the flu, to live like a rockstar for a few days, smoking, drinking and staying up late.
