BUSINESS: Finland to hire high-value skilled workers

Aside from nurses, Finland is also on the lookout for high-value skills such as information technology experts and other specialized fields.
In an interview with Finland Ambassador to the Philippines Juha Pyykkö, he said while the social and health sector dominate the employment opportunities in Finland, there is also good potential for those in other fields of expertise to land a job, as the country is continuing to grow in other sectors.
At present, there are about 5,000 to 6,000 Filipinos living in Finland, most of whom are medical professionals.
A country with only 5.5 million population, the ambassador said they are needing experts in different fields, including nurses as a constant need for its growing economy.
Education and Manufacturing
Aside from Finland’s interest to help the development of sustainable economy in the Philippines, such as improving the share of renewable energy mix in the country, the ambassador also mentioned that the Embassy has initial discussions with Department of Education (DepEd) secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte for a possible policy dialogue.
“We have a lot of [education] concepts that we want to provide here [Philippines] as well.
He also mentioned Finnish investors’ interest in investing further in renewable energy, circle economy, plastic, battery storage technology, and other smart and green related technologies
Tourism
The ambassador also mentioned the Philippines big potential to attract more Finnish tourists to visit the tropical country, admitting that the Philippines is considered as an unchartered territory for Finnish nationals.
Pyykkö, who was in Cebu Tuesday, October 11, for the official conferment of Jose Franco B. Soberano as the first Honorary Consul ever installed by the Finnish government in Cebu.
According to Pyykko, with right promotional campaign to be initiated by the Philippine government, the Philippines may be able to get the attention of Finnish travelers, “now that the skies are opening.” #TheFreeman
