CBCP warns public vs. bogus priests
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) here on Monday warned the public against bogus priests.
Bogus priests visit both the public and private cemeteries and pretend to bless burial sites and graveyards with holy water, say a prayer, then collect contributions from the relatives who pay a visit to the departed.
The CBCP directive urged the public to make sure that the person blessing their dead relatives is a real priest by asking appropriate identification and reference.
In Cagayan De Oro City, police and local officials had earlier thrown a security blanket around the public and private cemeteries here as people are expected to troop to the graveyard Monday night.
Security was tightened in the “City’s Memorial Park,†the largest public cemetery in Bolonsori, Camaman-an, this city, as thousands of people flocked to the area Monday.
Police and local village officials had strictly enforced the ban against liquor, gambling, loud music, and the bringing in of blunt objects in all the cemeteries here.
A team from the local risk reduction, disaster management team has been deployed to various cemeteries in the city to provide emergency relief when needed. (PNA)
