Press Release: Latest Status of COVID-19 testing in Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3, Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2, and the Philippine National Railways (PNR), as of 08 April 2021
In order to ensure the safety and overall well-being of commuters, and to further avert the spread of COVID-19 especially to rail workers, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade has ordered for the mass testing of all railway personnel, based on risk and targeted approach, and instructed railway operators that the following personnel will immediately undertake the necessary isolation and quarantine:
1. Those who tested positive
2. Those who are still awaiting test results
3. Those identified as close contacts of confirmed cases
4. Employees exhibiting any symptom of COVID-19
Following the resumption of operations on 05 April 2021, the MRT-3 is running under limited capacity, with the deployment of 10 to 12 trains, while the LRT-2 line dispatched five (5) trains, and the LRT-1 has deployed 17 trains.
Meanwhile, the PNR will resume operations on Monday, 13 April 2021, after the scheduled completion of the mass testing of its personnel, as well as the re-integration procedures over the weekend, and will be deploying 10-12 trains.
To assist commuters and augment the rail line’s limited operations, the DOTr road sector has deployed additional PUVs along the rail line routes, to ferry those affected passengers to their destination.
Other initiatives that are still implemented and made available are the Free Ride for Healthworkers and Medical Frontliners, and the Free Ride for Authorized Persons Outside of their Residences (APORs) on jeepney routes operating under the LTFRB Service Contracting Program.
The DOTr and its attached agencies in the Railways sector enjoin all its stakeholders to fully cooperate with the national government and health authorities, and abide by preventive measures and health and safety protocols in place.
