MANILA, Philippines - Trina Arteche Etong, the wife of news anchor Ted Failon has passed away, about 20 minutes after doctors tried to revive her, radio dzMM's vice president for Manila division Peter Musngi reported Thursday night.

The 45-year-old Etong sustained wound in the head in a shooting incident that is being investigated by police.

Etong was brought to the New Era General Hospital in Quezon City at about 11 a.m., Wednesday. She stayed at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit and died there minutes before 9 p.m., Thursday.

Failon and Etong's relatives were seen crying while two doctors and four nurses were trying to revive Trinidad whose blood pressure had continued dropping minutes before she died.

New Era's Dr. Adonis Gascon, a neurosurgeon, said Etong was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m.

â€œThe immediate cause of death is penetrating cranial missile injury and then disseminated intravascular coagulation, and subsequent multi-organ failure," Gascon told radio dzBB.

A separate radio report said Failon and Etong's relatives broke into tears after learning about Trinidad's death. An ABS-CBN report also said that the younger daughter of Failon have yet to learn about Etong's death.

Musngi described the mood inside the ICU when the doctors declared Trinidadâ€™s death.

â€œAndito si Ted at ang kanyang anak na si Kaye [older daughter]. Hindi tumitigil ang pag-iyak ni Ted. So far napakalungkot ng pangyayari dito sa ICU [Ted and daughter Kaye were here. Ted could not stop crying. So far, there is a very sad mood here at the ICU]," Musngi said.

â€œAfter mga 20 minutes na pagpupumilit ng mga doctor at iba pang medical staff na i-revive si Trina ay tinigilan na nila. Tinaggal na ang mga intravenous device [After 20 minutes of trying to revive Trina, the doctors and the medical staff gave up. The intravenous devices had already been taken out of her]," he added

what will happen to the 3 househelpers and their driver plus the brother and sister of trina whom the police have arrested for alleged obstruction of justice now that trina is dead?

The police official was referring to Failonâ€™s driver and housemaidsâ€™ cleaning up the bloody mess produced by the shooting.

Police said four members of the Failon household and even Failon himself could be charged with violation of Presidential Decree 1829, or obstruction of justice.

The housemaids and the driver said they cleaned up Failonâ€™s vehicle and bathroom on their own volition and for fear that Failonâ€™s young daughter might see blood in the house.

Too sad. The housemaids and driver must have no idea that this type of case need more thorough investigation. Blood spatter,gun residue, etc. is most needed for forensic evidence. They sure destroy the most important evidence.

based on television footages, QC police seems to be harassing the whole family. you can see that they forcibly drag people to police mobiles. pull people from rooms and so on and they keep on saying that they committed lapses and that they committed obstruction of justice for tampering evidence. the househelps and driver were picked up without reading miranda rights.
let's just wait and see what's the outcome of this case as an apparent suicide turn into a real drama and politics came into the picture once again.

It seems surreal to see an all-too-familiar face delivering the news all of a sudden becoming the news himself.

Murag gipistahan man sa QC pulis ang trahedya sa pamilya ni Failon, kay sige man maigo sila sa balita sa Channel 2 nga si Ted ang anchor. It's sad to see Ted, who confronts the police with fearlessly hard-hitting questions in other crimes in the news, now crumbling in the midst of a personal tragedy. Dapat di na lang QC police ang ipa-handle sa investigation kay murag kulang sa objectivity ug impartiality, tungod kay bag-o ra sila gitira sa ABS-CBN about the raw footage of gunning incident involving alleged carnappers in Edsa.

ang tubag sa police kay part pa sa hot pursuit operation. so meaning suspect sila tanan pero ang gikaso, obstruction of justice. ka way clear aning mga police. kahibaw pa ba kaha ni sa pamalaud ang mga police ug nagbuot buot nalang ni sila?

Whether suicide or homicide--although I personally believe this is very likely suicide--the cause is money problem.

"Global crisis" used to be just statistics and the tough reality of seeing our own wallets depleted. But with this tragedy, "global crisis" now has a human face in Trina Etong, bathed in bloody red, and in Ted Failon, helplessly hiding in a red cap.

Very likely, Part 2 of this unfolding story will be the "money problem." I can almost smell the blood and paper trail. With Noli in the picture, wa kahay sumpay ang istorya ani sa Legacy? Whatever, it seems a demolition bulldozer will soon ruin political ambitions of those who have their sights set on 2010, including those of Ted himself and buddy Noli.

I don't think there's a third party involved. The day before Mrs. Etong allegedly committed suicide, they were discussing about household bills. Ted was asking his wife a list of expenses from helpers' wages to electricity bill. You see, no matter how famous they are, they also have problems like normal people do.

The morning Mrs. Etong allegedly committed suicide, Ted Failon was on board. He was supposed to meet his wife somewhere to discuss their problems after his program at 10:30 a.m.. He kept calling but the wife didn't answer so he left work about 15 minutes before his program was supposed to end. When he checked their bedroom, she wasn't there. When he checked the bedroom of one of his daughters, the bathroom was locked so he asked the househelpers to get the key and when they opened, Mrs. Etong was already bath in her own blood.

Ted Failon didn't report right away what happened as he took his wounded wife to the hospital. I guess he didn't want to report it right away to avoid media frenzy.

I saw in the video how the Pamela, the sister of Mrs. Etong was arrested and when her brother tried to shield Pamela, he too was handcuffed. There were lots of screaming. They were like criminals rounded up by the QC police officers. I think it was so inhumane of the police m since the siblings said they didn't want to leave their dying sister. And there was no case or warrant to arrest at that time.

Mrs. Etong died while her sisters and brother was in police custody. Paita jud oi! It was so heartbreaking to see how Failon's family was violated. I can understand why he was angry and sad at the same time.

How could Ted Failon's wife do this to her children and husband and family, it's just beyond me.
