SMC donates Php 1 B for construction of more gov't drug rehab centers

MANILA, Dec. 6 (PNA)--Conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) on Tuesday formally hand over its Php 1-billion donation to the government for the construction of additional drug rehabilitation facilities in the country.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno thanked SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Ramon Ang and the entire SMC management for extending support to the government’s effort to rehabilitate drug users.
Sueno thanked Ramon Ang for the Php 1-billion donation, which he described as "will go a long way for our kababayans who can still be saved from drug dependence through rehabilitation.p>Earlier, Ang said that by supporting government in its campaign against illegal drugs, as well as the rehabilitation of drug dependents, was also helping create an “environment of participation and contribution†because it enables other sectors to do the same.
The DILG secretary said the government would continue encourage corporations to exercise their social responsibility and support government’s drive to eradicate illegal drugs activities and reform drug users who could still be functional members of the society.
Sueno added that the government would continue receiving donations to supervise the aim of having mega drug rehabilitation facilities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The ceremonial turnover of Php 1-billion donation was also graced by Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco, Jr., DILG Undersecretary for Operations John Castriciones, concurrent chairman of Task Force Agila, and representatives from the Department of Health.(PNA)
