Demolition in Tagbilaran a Political Harassment?

Demolition of shanties and makeshift business structures in the city fish port located in the coastway of Poblacion 1 is a pure political harassment, and not because of the reasons given by Tagbilaran City Hall.

Poblacion 1 barangay kagawad Cesar Diez said occupants of structures in the fish port were not provided time to prepare for their coming dislocation, no notice of eviction and plans for relocation.

Barangay officials, from punong barangay Niño Racho down to barangay kagawads, are allegedly not allied with the camp of sitting city mayor Dan Lim.

Teofista Miculob, president of the fish port vendors association, also said she was not informed of the demolition since there were no dialogues, meetings done for them to know of the cityhall plans.

Fish vendors showed officials receipts proving payments of monthly fees averaging P130 monthly.

“What we are asking from cityhall is a fair treatment for we are also human beings trying to make a living,” Miculob pleaded.

A heavy equipment (backhoe) was sent by city hall Friday morning to complete the demolition at the city port but it pulled out after barangay councilor Diez asked that it be reset for another day since they are to celebrate the feast of Sto. Niño, their patron saint.

Diez also lamented on the accusations that the area in the fish port is a haven of drug addicts, pushers and hide out of criminal elements.

“Such accusation is very unfair. There are police and intelligence authorities that should verify first such reports. It could not be made as reason for this demolition,” the barangay kagawad said.

Mayor to my recollection has torn down three major squatter area's in the last year or two.
The first one being the bus terminal behind Dao bus terminal.
The second one, In the heart of the city center across from the Sarmiento bldg, and it wiped out an entire block.
Now the third being done in a very popular wet market for isda down below the cathedral?

Tagbilaran is becoming mahal in isda and tumbal!

It just seems like we have an increase in crime everytime shanties are being torn down and taken away from persons who have a hard enough time living a it is.

I feel looy for people who are the one's trying to live and support their families under these conditions.
