Actor Montano declines Arroyo appointment

TAGBILARAN CITY -- Actor-director Cesar Montano announced on Tuesday that he declined the position of film czar so that he could focus on his bid to run for governor in Bohol in the 2010 elections.

Montano has long been rumored to be eyeing the provinceâ€™s top position but has not confirmed his political plans until Tuesday.

Montano, whose real name is Cesar Manhilot and a registered voter in the town of Baclayon, said he and his family felt honored by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyoâ€™s appointment of him as Presidential Special Envoy for Film and Digital Cinema.

â€œI am grateful â€¦ but I regret to say I could not accept it since this will sidetrack my preparations for a gubernatorial bid in May 2010,â€ Montano said in a telephone interview aired on radio station dyRD Tagbilaran.

Montano, who initiated the interview, said he wanted to bring in â€œchange in Bohol politics,â€ which he said was being â€œused by politicians for business interests.â€

The actor-director disclosed that he has the support of his family. Wife and actress Sunshine Cruz is actively involved in promoting tourism in this island-province.

Cruz, who talked briefly during the interview, said she fully supported her husbandâ€™s political plans.

Montanoâ€™s appointment, which was signed by Ms Arroyo on May 19, would have accorded Montano diplomatic status.

When asked if he would seek the support of Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado, Montano only said that he did not â€œneed the blessingsâ€ of the governor.

because of the issue of charter change and the possibility of extending GMA's politcal power as prime minister under a parliamentary system, we boholanos should junk ALL administration candidates in the coming elections in 2010. this way, the issue of charter charge will lose supporters in congress and hopefully will die a natural death.

so, whoever runs for governor and congressmen under the administration ticket should be junked.

I think we should not underestimate Cesar. He has been working hard to earn public respect, the latest among his accolades being his degree in Mass Communications at the Lyceum. Let's also give him credit for promoting Bohol in his artworks, not to mention the free media coverage Bohol gets everytime he and fellow artists come to Bohol.

Besides, Cesar is a natural poster boy for Bohol--a handsome governor for a beautiful island.

I remember the 2006 election and it was my first year in the Bohol Media.
I was given the honor and privilege to cover the election as a Comelec media Witness.

When I was watching the Congressional votes being tabulated I had noticed Cesar Montano was doing good on the local Bohol level.

I agree totally with the positive support being given to Cezar. he is a nice person who loves Boholand does not want to see bad things happening in Bohol that will ruin it's reputation.

I wish all the candidates a happy and safe campaign and election and Good Luck to everyone!!!

Wala pa man tingali 10 percent sa total overseas Filipino population ang nagparegister as OAV, busa bisag sa mga national elective offices nga pwede moapil ang OFWs, mahimong swing vote lang ang OAV block kung close contest.

Pero bisag dili ta makaapil pagpili ug governor, dako man tingali ang multiplier effect sa overseas Filipinos, isip breadwinners, kung aktibo lang ta pagtabang sa pagpangampanya sa atong pamilya ug kaparentehan.

We have to assess where their (Edgar, Julius, Cesar) competencies/skills be best suited in terms of governance.

Let us not focus on which parties they belonged ( Administration, Opposition, Independent ). The thing is how their platfors (action plans) would bring great positive impact / change to the majority of Bohol constituents.

On your question whether I have plans for politics? As of this time, I don't have definite plans yet. Though I've been hearing rumors in Anda that I might be running for Mayor as I enlisted or registered with Comelec as a voter for 2010. Maybe some people speculated due to my affiliation with the community projects of some political figures in the province.

their signing of HB 1109 (which is apparently a move to change the constitution in order to accomodate GMA as prime minister and perpetuate herself in power) is a clear indication that these 2 boholano lawmakers primarily represent the interests of senior politicians first and not their constituents that they were elected to serve. we need leaders who will put the interest of the people who elected them first and foremost. by this definition, i don't think these 2 would qualify.

Question. What are the good, sound, logical reasons that one should vote for Cesar Montano? Justify it with hard facts? Assumptions not included.

If ever he wins, will the international organizations(UN for one) and/or other members of the international community (Australia, E.U., the US, Japan, South Korea, China,...etc) that have helped shaped Bohol's current positive development be so willing to continue to extend their help or will they become cautious and the province has to start from scratch again. We can only hope.

He may be, a good person inside, but the question is, will he be a good judge of character such that the people whom he will choose to surround him, his advisers, will have even a tenth of the golden heart and wisdom of the legendary wise King Solomon?

The future of the province and the welfare of the Boholano people is at stake here, how much are we willing to gamble?

We can only hope and pray that by some miracle he can and will do great things but what are the stakes and how high are the stakes?

I don't know how many of those that are members of TB are really here in the Province and are actually voting this coming elections and have seen, can see and are exposed to the everyday life of all the social classes (from the marginal fisherman who volunteers to maintain and protect a marine sanctuary even without compensation to the expatriate investor who has learned to live and love the province and its people and does philanthropic work ), their yearnings, hopes, dreams and aspirations. I'd rather not say what they say because it's up to you to find out for yourselves.

Yes, it cannot be denied that corruption exists in politics, but are they really the source or proginators of corruption? Or are we the reason why they have become corrupt. Whether we like it or not, good guys generally don't make good leaders but seemingly, the bad ones often do better... Eventually, it's just a matter of choosing the lesser evil or greater good (between the Devil and the deep, blue sea so to speak)...

it might be good for people to know that foreign-funded projects being implemented in bohol are not a result of the lobbying performance of our leaders in government. regardless of who is in power, these foreign governments will continue to "support" the various development projects that they have been doing for the last several decades. and while we are at it, it might be good for people to know that these foreign governments are not really doing this out of mercy or anaything kind of crap that they try to make us believe: these foreign governments are implementing these so called development projects because they are advancing their own hidden agenda.

so, whoever is bohol governor is immaterial, insofar as the continuation of the implementation of foreign-funded projects is concerned.

by the way, this comment is not in support of cesar montano's candidacy. you guys can vote for any candidate you take a liking to. of course, i would be particularly pleased and impressed if you guys would make an exception in the case of chatto and cajes.

Bolingitbaby, of course there's always hidden agenda by these funders, (nothings for free in this world), and it's "our" (responsive, responsible job to mitigate, buffer or downright oppose. As for lobbying, yes there is lobbying and "everybody up there" does not want "everybody down here" to be aware of that (catch my drift?). And the strongest unanimous reason that these funders retort without batting an eyelash is that the province of Bohol has very high rates of success and accomplishment compared to any other province in the country due to its leaders political will (but shyly say in whispers, it's also because of our leaders lobbying powers and connections)...
