Some 28 owners of illegal  connections along CPG Avenue and San Jose St. have shown voluntary interest to cut off their unauthorized drainage lines in the presence of representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

This developed amidst the raging dispute over the controversial drainage problem between City Mayor Dan Neri Lim and the Bohol Chronicle/DYRD twin media enterprise.

What provoked the media attack given the city mayor’s position on the drainage issue was that he hates to be dictated by anyone including media firms.

The furious exchange between two powerful interests already escalated into a daily basis with the Chronicle expected to dish out another heavy dosage of bombast in today’s issue of the paper. From Station DYRD, Mayor Lim abandoned his highly rated Mayor’s Report every Saturday and settled into the waiting arms of Station DYTR. His TR program is entitled “Ang Mayor sa Dakbayan”. This weekly program is on top of his daily Barangay Patrol and “Mas Maayong Buntag” also at DYTR.

During Mayor Lim’s radio program yesterday, the city mayor  again took potshots to its favorite whipping boy, the twin media outfit.

Gov. Erico Aumentado broke the news to the Post last night about the willingness of the 28 illegal connectors to do away with their drainage link.

The owners of the illegal drainage taps expressed interest of a voluntary cut off a day after they were sent notices of disconnection by  Provincial Natural Environment Officer (PENRO) Nestor Canda. The notices were sent to erring drainage connectors last. Sept. 23.

Canda was expected to deliver the list of the 28 illegal connection owners to the residence of the governor anytime yesterday.

With DENR Sec. Lito Atienza in town yesterday, it was possible that he was informed by Canda about this good news.

Sec. Atienza in a previous Bohol trip was already informed by Mayor Lim what hampered the free flow of storm water to an out fall purposely constructed in the shoreline near the Shell depot. The secretary made no reservations in his order to Canda to cut off the illegal drainage connection pronto!

According to Gov. Aumentado, with the 28 willing to disconnect voluntarily what remains is a modest figure of nine illegal connectors. The voluntary disconnection  was an encouraging development on the part of Mayor Lim because it happens even if he has not lifted a finger to disconnect the illegal taps.

It was Aumentado and Lim who coordinated with Canda to cut off the illegal connection when they meet two weeks ago to address the city’s nagging drainage problem. - Bohol Sunday Post

this one single issue has seen a lot of buck passing by many of our public officials.  it is hardly inconceivable that a very small issue like the drainage issue in tagbilaran is taking so very long to resolve even with the involvement of the provincial governor and the DENR secretary. the city government could have easily done this. obviously, our city officials are not up to their jobs. puro lang istorya. way nahimo.
