Boholano wants Tagbilaran pier shanties demolished
« on: February 28, 2008, 06:50:46 PM »
The Philippine Ports Authority wants to demolish the shanties at the Tagbilaran City Port after the contract with the organizer of the "Hudyaka sa Pasko" expired last January 7.

PPA Port Manager Emmanuel Boholano said the organizer of Hudyaka has requested for an extension of their stay but was denied by top port officials. The denial of their request for extension was followed by a request for a reconsideration.

The local port manager is awaiting the final decision of PPA district or central offices where the organizer's move for reconsideration was submitted last week.

Top PPA management has viewed the existing shanties as "eye sore" at the port which is declared as the first "tourist port in the country." What is being seen are shanties displaying dry goods or "okay-okay" including some eateries.

Nonesense. It may be 'eye-sore' pero it is sustenance for some people of Bohol. Luuy lang pood ang tawo gi ingnan ra 'eye sore'. It's easy to discriminate on the poor because of their economic disposition, the authority members wouldn't say the same if they were in the situation of those selling the goods.

People go to Bohol to experience the beauty and the genuine Boholano people. Why create something artificial when in all reality there are poor people in Bohol, as well as there are well to do, rich etc.

Let the tourists see the real Bohol. The Bohol that they have learned to love and appreciate.

Regards,
Bran Lorenzo

Lorenzo,

U R really a Boholano at heart.

Tourists who comes to Bohol are not looking for a Disneyland kind or experience.

They want to experience nature, an out of civilization experience, away from the noisy city, a simple life. They want to discover a different kind of economy/culture, curious about how we Filipinos are surviving amidst ailing economy and remain happy regardless.

Its up to us to show them the real us, a people full of hope, strong in spirit, we have to show to them that money is not the only source of happiness.

I invite rich people around the world who are troubled and desperate to come to Bohol and discover a natural theraphy.

Mr. Ferniz,

Amen! I just find it very rude how they call our fellow Bol-anons 'eye sore' just because they are poor. Sorry na lang if I step on some toes pero that is very unprofessional and very unethical kai one cannot blame those who are selling things sa port kai of course naa gud tourists diba? Natural ra pood mo anha ang tawo dinha to sell goods, to get people to buy goods. Last time, Mr. Ferniz, when i went back to Bohol in '98, when i got out of the boat with my family there was an old lady who asked us to buy some crackers, pinirito etc. It was one of those bags of cookies pero she was selling it for like 8-10 pesos, what is 8-10 pesos to foreigners? Like 10-20 cents? Gamay ra na pero for them dako na na kaayo. I remember buying 4 packages from that lady. And they are not very rude baya, she thanked us for buying. Ako, if i see poor people, ma luuy man jud ko immediately. I don't know but i can't help it.

Rude kaayo for those who are in power or are priviledge to just walk over those who are struggling.
Di ba sila ma sakit? Di ba sila mo hilak ug i sumbagon? Di ba sila mo kao-on ug na gutom, di ba sila mo singit ug na sakit-an?

Poor or not, they are still human beings. Luuy lang pood sila uy.

Well you guys my first banner story had to do with shanties and i had wrote it in defense towards the mayor of the city and told him in person while interveiwing him that he was cold hearted to blame the poor and tare down their homes behind the Dao bus terminal.

Even Non voted for deputy mayor Mario uy had to snear at me because i was throwing in my luuy and bright attitude to them.
I had told mayor that some of those people have work and some of them have no spouse and some of them have children born with out legs or arm's.

I also told him some even have up to 12 kids living in one shack.

I warned him that he is looking to find more trouble as he just kicks out the poor on their heads as they sleep ontop of their fluffy beds at night people here will be more desperate and looking for a way to make an earning by hook or crook if you treat them like criminals.

My name was MUD for a long time and I am not afriad of the Big Bad Wolf of Tagbilaran I have always had kahuna and I am proud to say it like it is.
just look at my stepson and his girlfriend and their bb as his dad built them a comeplete one bedroom with c.r. attached to my (%$#@&*) front porch and grotto and he works and does not help pay the bills or help or do thety do any house work now there is charity and their is simply being taken advantage of!

Mayor of tagbilaran is the boss dog with the fuzzy nuts who is in charge of attacking the poor.

You're Lola is absolutely right B:). A sleeping dog if provoked respects no master. They will bite.

Also my Lola told do not disturb an eating dog.

Just like the dog, that little space for rest is everything the dog gots. That food is the only possesion the dog ever owns.

For the vendors, that little shantie is the only possesion, property and source of living they have. So, if you try to strip it away from them, just like the dog, they will bite.

Unlike rich people, money are just toys. If they lost thousands in gambling, they will simply smile and call it a bad day.

That is a good idea Lindy. Why not the city provide for these people a selling facility where they can do business and promote their handicrafts. I believe it will be filled with tourists who are curious of local products. The mere sound of people doing auction and haggling is enough to attract the hungry cameras of tourists (it would be a prize photograph just like RV's carbon market).

Mr.Ferniz and Mr.Lindy, both absolutely right in what you're saying.

That's why it's so hard to understand what these high authorities are thinking?

Yes, that's what I call "relocation".

Pahabol:

There is a saying that if you want to grow a beard, grow it long or shave it close.

This means if you want to improve the pier, you have to remove the vendors, plus you have to widen it, make it look modern, put a nice gate, nice bathroom..etc. if you want to impress the tourists. Otherwise, just leave it alone and keep the shanties as it makes the place filled with humanity, just like the floating restaurant of Thailand which became a big tourist attraction.
