A 77-year-old woman died of cardiac arrest a few minutes after an intensity four earthquake shook the town of Mabini in Bohol past noon on Wednesday, according to reports reaching the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) based in Cebu City.
Neil Sanchez, RDCC coordinator, yesterday told Cebu Daily News that Euphemia Villamor was relieving herself when she felt the ground shake. Shocked, she immediately went out of the toilet.
Based on reports reaching the RDCC office, Villamor was given a glass of water but after a few seconds, she experienced pain in her chest. She died about 12:20 p.m.
“She suffered a cardiac arrest in her residence. So far, only one casualty was reported due to the earthquake. No one was reported injured during the quake that hit some areas in the Visayas,†he said.
No damage was reported when the earthquake hit Bohol and Cebu yesterday, Sanchez added.
Ver Balaba, Office of Civil Defense coordinator in Bohol, yesterday said Villamor died upon reaching the hospital.
An intensity five earthquake rocked the province of Bohol, some parts of Cebu and Northern Mindanao past 12 noon on Wednesday.
Tectonic in origin, the epicenter of earthquake was recorded at five kilometers northwest of Anda, Bohol.
Balaba said an aftershock in Tagbilaran City was recorded at intensity two around 4 p.m. but residents barely felt it.
He said they received reports that shoppers in one of Tagbilaran's largest malls panicked and rushed out of the building when they felt the tremor which registered intensity five in some towns located near the East Bohol Fault.
