Even if the newly elected councilors or "kagawads" throughout the province has not assumed office, one Tagbilaran City councilor in the person of reelected Kagawad Dandan Bantugan has already expressed interest for the coveted position. Why do people are so desirous of the presidency of the Philippine Councilors League, Bohol Provincial Chapter? Here are some of the more obvious reasons:
a) Being the president, by law he takes a slot reserved for it at the Provincial Sangguniang Panlalawigan. When you get to be a member of the Provincial Legislature, you also obtain lots of perks; like allowances, salary, service vehicle, staff, free equipment, free travel and a semblance of congress peoples' "pork barrel", etc.
b) Prestige, which you can parlay into a higher political position like Atty. Boy Jala, Padre Ondoy Cajes and even Gov. Aumentado are of the more prominent examples.
c) Political power play.
So, Kag. Bantugan will pit himself versus the incumbent in the person of also just reelected Loay Kagawad Brigido "Boy" Imboy and others who will come out of the woodworks soon. Dandan B's early declaration is indicative that someone is sponsoring him and the most likely patron is a top official of the city. How about Boy Imboy? Well, he can stand on his own as he was able to in the last occasion by vanquishing the combined clouts of the Valencia Lims and the governor. So, this time there again will be a candidate from the Lim's group singly or in combination with Gov. Aumentado's.
