Here's the latest update from Bohol Sunday Post, March 29, 2009:Bungled sex deal eyed also in brutal Brit slayA bungled sex tryst may have been one of the reasons why a British national was killed brutally at dawn Tuesday at the so-called Bolok-Bolok Spring in Mansasa district, this city.
Police investigators were zeroing in on this possibility that it was case of a botched sex deal after they pieced together the circumstances that led one of the suspects to kill Martin Williams, 45, a resident of Tawala, Panglao town. He was said to have owned a bar in Tawala's tourist row of bars and restaurant.
The sex angle was pursued by investigators after it was discovered that the victim was already down in his underwear when the crime was discovered.
The same investigators theorized that the "money down" portion of the deal must have triggered the quarrel between one of the suspects, a girl in her teens.
According to police probers, just what led the British and the girl to proceed to the shoreline past midnight if not for something else. Even going to the steep elevation leading to Bolok-Bolok is already a dangerous adventure much more if it is dark, investigators added.
Other motives like revenge were also being looked into by investigators.
RECORD TIME
In record time, two people, a man and the minor girl, were arrested in connection with the killing of the British national.
The victim bore multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body when found by early morning of Tuesday.
Williams is married to a Filipina who is a native of Leyte but the two have been estranged allegedly due to the womanizing of the former. She arrived here Wednesday to attend to the wake of her husband who now lies in state at Funeraria Gomez. The foreigner's relatives in England were already notified of what happened and they are expected to arrive here. Final funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized pending arrival of the victim's relatives.
While managing a bar in Tawala, police records showed that the fatality was the object of two cases of acts of lasciviousness and attempted rape.
Last January, he was also the target of a shooting incident while tending his Tawala bar. The assailant missed his target and fled. Until now, it was not known who was behind the attempted murder.
THE GRUESOME SLAY
In less than 72 hours after the crime, a suspect identified as one Christian Gulle, 20, who gave his address as San Agustin, Buhangin district, Davao City but said to be a native of Dagohoy town was picked up by pursuing policemen.
The other suspect is a 17-year-old girl who is a native of Sierra-Bullones town.
Gulle was arrested by policemen responding to a tip from a concerned citizen about a suspicious character who was armed and sported a fresh wound on his palm.
He turned out to be the owner of the ID card which was found in the crime scene.
Initial investigation revealed that Williams checked in at Mangrove KTV along Mansasa seaside. Sources at the bar revealed that he was a familiar face because he checked in at the resort with different female companions in the past.
Gulle admitted that he and the girl engaged in a drinking session at a restaurant along CPG avenue .
At about 2 am, they proceeded to Mangrove KTV but the victim and the girl went to Bolok-Bolok instead.
The suspect said that while the two were alone, he heard the girl shout for help, prompting him to respond.
It happened so fast and when it was over, Williams who was already stripped to his underwear was already dead from the multiple stab wounds.
The two fled from the scene but Gulle dropped his ID which became the first lead for investigators.
Following the arrest of Gulle, the girl was picked up while she was trying to return home.
The suspects were presented to the media Friday morning by authorities to counter allegations that the city was no longer safe.
PEACE & ORDER BREAKDOWN?
Mayor Dan Lim said that contrary to what his critics would like the public to believe, the killing had little to do with a breakdown of peace and order.
"These types of crimes are a consequence of a loose lifestyle. It can happen to any place and should not be an indication of the peace and order situation in the city," he added.
Lim said the swift arrest of the suspects showed the city police force is on top of the situation and that proves that those who commit crimes in the city will eventually be arrested.
The mayor added that there has been a significant break in the investigation on the killing of Victor Taray, the owned of Via Bohol, but declined to elaborate saying this might compromise the follow-up operations.
"The important thing is that we can assure our people that we are doing everything to maintain peace and order in our city," he added.
Lim called on those who might have vital information on the killing saying that all tips will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
"If you want the city to be peaceful, let us all contribute by sharing information that might lead to the arrest of criminals and lawless elements," he added.
