By Rey Anthony ChiuPhilippine Information Agency Slay suspect on the loose Hilario “Larry†Diola has been reportedly spotted roaming in the vicinities of Inabanga, Buenavista and Danao, Camp Dagohoy chief investigator John Gilbert Basalo shared.
Identified as the prime suspect in the murder of Bohol Bayan Muna secretary general Mario Auxilio, the suspect has since evaded the police who were trailing his escape route since June 15 when he shot three times his close friend Auxilio.
Unconfirmed sightings of the criminal remaining scot-free and reported by Bayan Muna networks have placed the apparent blame on the police who still could not run after the killer, two days after the incident.
Updating the media, PCInsp. Basalo, during a phone interview said they have filed a case against the suspect June 22. The police has supported the case with material evidence in slugs recovered at the crime scene and at the victim’s body during autopsy.
The Provincial Investigation and Intelligence Bureau has taken over the case from Bien Unido Police, and Bohol Bolice chief, PSSupt Edgardo Ingking has vowed to look at all angles to prosecute the case.
“We would be treating the investigation like any ordinary criminal case†Ingking told media during a press conference two days after the murder.
Now, after the hot pursuit operations time regulation has lapsed and with the courts still to conduct preliminary investigation on the case filed last June 22, PSSupt. Ingking said the police can still apprehend the suspect and evade from a possible illegal arrest rap.
“Tools of the trade,†Ssupt Ingking said when pressed on how they may operate before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor could issue the arrest warrant on the fleeing suspect.
With the suspect sighted, Governor Erico Aumentado has caused the release of P50T from the provincial intelligence funds as a reward to anybody who could provide the police information leading to Diola’s arrest. Last Monday, Aumentado met Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo, Camp Dagohoy official at the Governor’s Mansion to update on case.
Police have earlier reported that they are baffled over the case in their hands: a suspect on the loose and a crime with still a vague motive.
Last June 15, at about 10:30 pm in Bien Unido, suspect Diola reportedly gunned down peasant leader Mario Auxilio.
Police authorities said they are looking at possible leads on the gist of the talk the victim and assailant had for more or less 20 minutes before the fatal shooting happened.
At least seven witnesses have positively identified gunman Hilario Diola, the victim’s friend.
The victim survived the three gunshot wounds and was rushed to the nearest hospital until he expired two days later due to complications.
“We are also digging up if the gun used in the murder is licensed, as it could be an aggravating circumstance for the crime,†Basalo said.
