Press Release
With a constituency of about 30 million voters, 20 percent of the seats in the House of Representatives, and 54 bloc members, the Party-list Coalition, led by 1-PACMAN Rep. Michael L. Romero, might decide on its choice for Speaker of the House within the next two weeks.
“We will do viva voce voting in front (of everybody in caucus) para transparent sa lahat...and then we will move as a bloc,” Romero said in an interview with veteran journalist Ed Lingao on the One News public affairs program “The Chiefs”
The term of office of all Members of Congress start on June 30, 2019.
Romero said it is important that they vote for Speaker as a bloc so they can get their fair share of committee chairmanships and other key positions, including Deputy Speaker, the Commission on Appointments, and the electoral tribunal for the House.
“Our 50 plus votes for one aspirant for Speaker is minus 50 for the others,” the congressman pointed out.
As to which committees they seek, Romero said, “depende iyan sa balance at sa dynamics ng 18th Congress.”
“It's 20 percent (of key posts) or nothing,” said Romero, who emphasized their need to advance the sectoral agendas that will benefit their about 30 million constituency of people who voted for party-lists through the positions they will hold in Congress. (END)
