Barack Obama Wins: First African-American President
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:29:27 PM »
Democrat Barack Obama captured the White House on Tuesday after an extraordinary two-year campaign, defeating Republican John McCain to make history as the first black to be elected U.S. president.

Obama will be sworn in as the 44th U.S. president on January 20, 2009, television networks said. He will face a crush of immediate challenges, from tackling an economic crisis to ending the war in Iraq and striking a compromise on overhauling the health care system.

McCain saw his hopes for victory evaporate with losses in a string of key battleground states led by Ohio, the state that narrowly clinched President George W. Bush's re-election in 2004, and Virginia, a state that had not backed a Democrat since 1964.

Obama led a Democratic electoral landslide that also expanded the party's majorities in both chambers of Congress and firmly repudiated eight years of Republican President George W. Bush's leadership.

The win by Obama, son of a black father from Kenya and white mother from Kansas, marked a milestone in U.S. history. It came 45 years after the height of the civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King. Reuters

Obama triumphs, will be first black US president

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama swept to victory as the nation's first black president Tuesday night in an electoral college landslide that overcame racial barriers as old as America itself. "Change has come," he told a huge throng of cheering supporters.

The son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, the Democratic senator from Illinois sealed his historic triumph by defeating Republican Sen. John McCain in a string of wins in hard-fought battleground states — Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa and more.

On a night for Democrats to savor, they padded their majorities in the House and Senate, and come January will control both the White House and Congress for the first time since 1994.

In his first speech as president-elect, Obama catalogued the challenges ahead. "The greatest of a lifetime," he said, two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century."

John McCain is a goodman indeed! He gracefully concedes immediately as a loser. What a good example for our politicians to emulate! Wrong timing ang pagkandidato nya when most of the Americans perceived him as a reflection of the Bush Administration. Sa local dialect pa, Busheeet!!!!

I heard Obama hates outsourcing jobs

In his acceptance speech during the Democrats National Convention, Obama said he will impose more tax to US companies that outsource jobs.

I heard Obama hates outsourcing jobs

Of course.

President-Elect Obama, like many Democrats adhere to a protectionist policy, the prime goals of the democrat agenda include:

1. Reclaiming American Jobs
2. Refurbishing the Medical System
3. Energy Policy
4. Military and Foreign Cause

The major problem with some of the Republican tenents is the exporting of American Jobs to foreign countries.

We Americans must adhere to the concept of America First. Everything that effects America, will, by right, influence and affect the world.

This 2008 Election is manifest of that.

Congratulations President-Elect Barack Obama.
The Strongest Man in the World
The Leader of the Free World

Not necessarily.

Because the medical profession is not outsourcing jobs. We are not sending nursing positions to the Philippines or building hospitals in the Philippines and India.

Job outsourcing is referring to the positions that are being sent abroad and based abroad. Such as the telecommunication industry, the metallurgical industry, manufacturing so on and so forth.

In regards to Nursing profession and Medical Profession, the United States is importing the foreign candidates to the United States to fill in the ranks of the American Medical System.

By that, Slackware, foreign candidates will assimilated into the American Society, and their families that will come with them. In the end, the United States gains money and resource because:
1) America will receive nurses and physicians to augment its health care
2) These new physicians and nurses will become American Citizens and or Legal Aliens which translates into:
        a) Paying Taxes for Uncle Sammy
        b) Buying homes, and real estate, and resources, which goes back to Uncle Sammy's market
        c) Professional-based

America takes the best of the best from the world. And bars those who are unqualified.

That is how American survives and stays in the top.

Economically, it is sound.

One good quality about Obama is that he is willing to address the current health care disparity in our country. There are over 40 million Americans that do not have health insurance or just cannot afford the cost of health insurance let alone provide bread and butter for their families.

As one who will enter into the Public Health spectrum and provide care for patients, and treat our fellow American people, I am a proponent of Obama's tenent in providing basic medical coverage to all Americans.

I believe that all Americans, be they of white collar or blue collar; be they of monetary means or not, should be entitled to the same basic medical coverage. In this day of age, the cost of just visiting a Family Physician for basic check up can run anywhere from $250 to $350; depending on the Health Insurance.

With a basic medical system; a people will be given access to primary care; especially important for our senior citizens who need check up on a weekly basis for treatment of their neuropathy and or their gangrinic foot; and or check up to see if they are suffering any infection; as they are already immunosuppressed.

I find Obama's domestic agenda rather inspiring.

America First. Then Worry about the World.

One thing that I did not agree with McCain and other Republican candidates is that when they were asked about the medical coverage system and what they would do about it; they all answered that they would 'change' it by allowing Americans the right to choose our own medical care providers and allow a full capitalist system to be open for the people.

Full capitalist system?

This basically meant that they would maintain the status quo, regarding the health system.

How can one sleep at night knowing that there are 40 million American CITIZENS that go to bed at night and cannot and will not take their diabetes medication because they cannot afford it? That there are scores of Americans who have hypertensive but cannot afford to even visit a Physician because the cost of visiting a physician is equivalent to 2 or 3 days worth of work in pay?

The cost of medical care here in the United States is quite expensive; a minor orthoscopic procedure can run anywhere around $1000 to $1500 and that is just one procedure. A minor surgery such as repairing of a lacerated wound (superficial wound) can cost an individual anywhere between $5,000 to even $10,000+.

A major surgical procedure such as appendectomy, tonsillectomy, cardiac surgery, orthopedic surgery etc can run anywhere between $50,000 to even $100,000+

That in itself, is more than what many of us make in a year, let alone pay for it.

This is why health care is imperative. Basic health care should be an umbrella for all Americans.

I heard Obama hates outsourcing jobs

Other things kanang mga dagko nga eroplano like boeing, war planes etc basta dagko, mao na ilang gina pull back diri sa Merika. So Kiams ajaw kabalaka kay kanang call center will stay outside Merika so most likely diha ra na sa India ug Pinas...

About tax, it is an Amerikan way of living, more money-more tax. If you dont like it the door is wide open for those who dont want to pay taxes, outta Merika! PERIOD.

The election of Barack Obama, has resounded throughout the Halls of Washington to the four corners of these United States. And even abroad.

His election is a breath of fresh air, an irrigation of new blood into the United States political spheres.

The rise of President Barack Obama, is testament to the re-awakening of the United States. The Age of Pax Americana has arrived.

The Superpower has reclaimed its Golden Scepter.

God Bless the United States!

from what i read in the papers/net, i think obama's stand on abortion does not lie much on morality and ethics.  it's more for convenience of the woman than being right. and what's convenient is, more likely than not, wrong.  abortion is not about religion.. its about the moral fiber that binds the people.. the american people in this case.  in the end, the question would be more on the values of america, as a nation, as a people.

Alangan man, ug modako ang gasto sa business, di mang lay-off sila.

Another example, akong cousin who was taking care of her very sick daughter nga naay leukemia, naburos sha but the doctor adviced her to terminate the baby kay she was very much exposed to her daughters chemo therapy and radiation procedures, and thus can harm the baby, terminate jud oi! Abort with no second thought, it was a MUST!

So kanang mga pataka ug tikangkang unya ma buros, naa ra na nila if gusto ba sila ipadayun or dili they have options, either padayun or adoption...

So everything here when it comes abortion religion doenst anymore matters...

Having an abortion means killing someone who is already alive, because of the inconvenience of their existence.[Killing your unborn child because he maybe at risk of potential radiation exposure is exactly the same as if we killed someone  who is so expose to radiation  - if we said "Well, we don't have the money to take care of this person if something goes wrong in the next year or so, so we'd better kill him, so that we won't have to pay her hospital bills or we wont be expose to this person.
I hope you would agree that it would be monstrous to kill someone because they might get sick in the next nine months.
It's the same thing, because the unborn child is just as much a human being as you are, and as I am.
Its just too bad that there are these rotten rapists about, where do they get the nerve?
Bearing a rapist child is quite a trial I think for the women.Every conception is the will of God no matter rape or incest etc, and I know it's hard on the woman victim. What did this child ever do that it deserves to die? Killing the child is not going to un-rape the mother, nor is it going to punish the father. There is a common emotion that seems to make us think we can undo the original violence by more violence.

Alangan man, ug modako ang gasto sa business, di mang lay-off sila.

Hello Ging!  First of, welcome to Tubag Bohol.  Secondly, tukayo bya ta kay Ging pod akong pet name.

Now on your comments about Obama, ask lang ko, asa ka gikan ana na info?

Dili man pina angkan si Obama sa iyang Kenyan father. He is a legitimate son of a legitimate married couple.  His parents married in 1961 and divorced in 1964.  But if he was, so what?  Ingon ka na "wala na kaayo sya ning angkon sa iyang katunga na pagkaputi", eh unsaon man na pag angkon enough na from the very beginning, he said na man na his mother, grandparents are white as white can be although naa na silay trace of Irish and German blood.  Ato lang siguro impression na gipaka dak-an nya ang iyang pagka itom kay that's the color of his skin.

Raising tax.  Complicated kaayo ang taxation but just a little insight.  Dato does not mean small businesses.  He was going to increase taxes for, if I am not mistaken additional of 4%  for those earning more than 250k a year.  Currently, this bracket - the top bracket is taxed 35% so mamahimo na dayong 39% ang tax.  That was the same rate back in previous administrations.  With the reduction, those earning below 250k, naay tax break like 500 dollars per worker tax credit and 4k tax credit per child in college unya those earning below 50k a year, dili sila ma tax.  Same man pod sa ato diha naay dili i tax kon ubos na jud kaayo ang income kay unsa pa man tawon mabilin.  So I don't think matawag na nato'g kawaton para ihatag sa mga itom na tapulan or however you phrased it.  It's wrong to generalize people just because of the color of their skin.  Pareho ra tanan color atong dugo or basin naay uban lahi ang color?

As to his religion, ingon ni ms da binsi, so what if he is a Muslim?  From time to time, I remind myself that being a Muslim is not equivalent to Bin Laden.  Anyway, the fact is that he isn't a Muslim (again, not that there's anything wrong with that!). Obama was castigated  for his involvement with Christian preacher Jeremiah Wright, the pastor who spoke strongly about America.  Kay ngano daw?  Kay pastor lagi daw ni Obama.  Kini daw si Pastor Jeremiah Wright, mao daw ni na Pastor na nagkasal ni Obama ug Michelle and baptized their two girls.  So how can he be a Muslim and at the same time attend Christian church?

His alleged association with the terrorists.  His opponents counted two or three or maybe four people associated with Obama that has link to terrorist movements. Do we have to ask first before we sit with people what their political or social affiliations are?   I "associated" with criminals in Muntinlupa as my "act of mercy" stuff.  Does it make me criminal as well?  Or, lahi na sya pagka interpret nko?  Di ko ka gets.

His drug use when he was in high school.  I can only be thankful that I didn't have youthful indiscretions like that but other kids deal with life differently. Well, somebody challenged me to use marijuana back in high school pero grabeh akong fear ma kastiguhan sa akong amahan! hahaha  Bitaw, his parents divorced, mother moved to Indonesia, etc.  That's too much for other kids to handle.  Well, I don't want to sound like I am justifying but that's the way things were.  We all make mistakes and it will continue to be a mistake if we don't see it as such.  Obama did.  At that time, Obama did not have a foresight that he was becoming a president otherwise he didn't do that kay nah batikoson jud sya!  The important thing is that he turned his life around and became a decent person.  In fact he is now the 44th US President!

Ay hungihong ra diay nimo ning imong gi comments dire?  Sige, share lang pod ko sa akong points of view which are based on facts.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts here!

Share the wealth ba.Redistribution matud pa.
Act of charity man para nako ang tax.Kung kawaton sa goberno ang tax di na sala nako basta I already done my part ing share sa ako hinaguan.

Thanks for the Welcome.

Let me start this with a small story from college.

Back when I was in manila, Erap declared all out war in mindanao. In my college that was a big controversial thing. A lot of the northern students, meaning Tagalogs, Ilokanos etc rallied "NO TO WAR". They haven't been to mindanao, can't even point Davao in a map, and don't have any vested interest in mindanao.

The Southern students who actually grew up in Mindanao rallied "YES TO WAR". They have lived there, the muslims have destroyed their homes, their farms, their livelihoods, their families etc.

So logically, who should we believe ? people caught up in the "cause of the moment" ? or people who really have a vested interest in war or no war ? either way, it wont affect the northern students, but the southern students see that fighting back is the only way to stop the violence.

Personally, I have family in mindanao and the things they don't tell us that are happening are just plain atrocious. So I am inclined to support the war. Because I trust my family who have no reason to lie to me.

Why is this related, well, Ate Ging, are you in the US ? do you have family that live here ? I hope this does not come out the wrong way, the only reason I ask is that, Do you have a vested interest in the future or the way of life here in the US ? Because if you do or don't that changes your perspective a little. If I am living in the Philippines right now and my life won't be affected, I couldnt care less about  the US economy, I don't think I will go for a conservative old man, but probably support Obama because he seems to be the charismatic popular choice...but since I am here, I support "the lesser evil". McCain won't be my first choice, I just don't believe in Obama.

My point with his being an illegitimate child was this : he should be more grateful that everything he has ever had in his life, except for the color of his skin was given to him by his white family. Yes, he mentions that side of the family, but how often really ?  I know in Politics, you have to capitalize on what you have, but c'mon, minimizing the other half of him ? You don't hear him campagning and reaching out to Caucasian communities, but all you see on the news, FOX news ( I don't watch CNN or NBC since they are largely democratic and biased) is that most of his programs   are geared towards welfare and basically making life easier for those people who are already doing nothing. That is unfair to those of us who actually get up at the crack of dawn to work for everything we've got.

watch this , a typical Obama supporter here in the US.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agAvKP-NnjU

As for the tax, with all due respect Ging, most small businesses here do make $250k above. Its not considered rich. BUT, that $250k is just gross income, expenses, salary etc still has to come out of that. So if taxes are raised on small business, all they can do to survive is 2 things, pass the cost to the consumer, or terminate an employee. That will result in a rise in uneployment and a higher cost of goods. If more small companies go belly up, there will be no competition in the market and you know the rest. basic economics. So we really need tax breaks for those people who are trying. I mean, think about it, would you be all ambitious and get up every morning to work hard if you know that as soon as you hit that $250k mark, your taxes will automatically go up? its easy to get there specially with a lot of our fellow pinoy nurses who work 2-3 hospitals at $30-$60/hr.

I can see the how people making below $50k won't be taxed or the tax credits, it would be ideal and it would be nice. Might surprise you to note, I actually do listen to the other side. But, even in our beloved homeland, Do you really think they can push that into fruition ? Seriously, in both countries, when we talk of higher taxes, it becomes a reality almost instantly, but tax cuts in this magnitude ? I don't think it will happen in the next 4 years. In fact, not holding my breath for it.

Then you'd argue, what about tax cuts for businesses. Well, a lot of businesses pay a lot of money into supporting their candidates, the big ones at least, so its easier for them to get a tax cut. The average person here, heck, we don't give to political campaigns, we need our money for ourselves than give it to to people who already have it, so there goes the motivation. I mean, if it was you, would you work harder for a paying job or a job that doesnt pay you anything ? :-)

As to his religion, different sources, different things. I've personally seen fox news, you tube (if it wasnt pulled yet) and wikipedia (not sure about this one ha) , Apparently, our boy was once very proud of his muslim religion prior to 9/11, then he just shusshed. I mean, ikaw ba pud, ma proud ba diay sad ka after ana. I know not all  muslims are bad. But just humor me nalang gud, personally, mahadlok jud ko ug muslim. 1 because of our very own Abu Sayyaf in Mindanao and 2, my brother in law is in the US marines. if I start with how the muslims in the middle east torture their own people, it will take all day. Just go to www.Ogrish.com . it gave me the chills.

Also, in a poll on Fox, the Iranian president, Kim jong il  and Hugo Chavez actually prefers Obama. Again people, ayaw sa kasuko. As I've said, McCain is not my first choice, but since they like Obama, I don't like him . What does this imply, they think that Obama is a weakling. In fairness, he doesnt have the war experience Mccain has, He doesnt have a child in the military like McCain, Palin and Biden have. But what is scary about this is that, if they think that he is "b***t" (sa ato pang binugoy nga language), we will be looking at another possible terrorist attack.  And we won't know where its gonna be coming from.  Mura ba ug "gulat-gulat" sa ato. Di ba, naa ubang taw nga mokuyos lang, mao na maoy sigehan ug sug-sug or maoy kalingawan, pero tong dili gani ma 'gulat", wala gyud manghilabot ? ingana ra gud sad akong point.

I agree with you, Raquel. Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar and give to God what is due to God, Jesus said in the Gospel. Jesus paid his tax to the Roman government.

As for being christian and muslim at thesame time. I'm catholic, hubby is Episcopalian, i have baptist, lutheran, methodist, and even INC, yeps bisan diri sa Texas naay INC. Hubby goes to catholic church with me every sunday. I sometimes go with my friends to baptist church, I've even been to Mormon church since I have friends there too. My point is that, Obama CAN be a muslim and go to a Christian church.  You can be both, you know. You don't have to renounce your  muslim fate to become a christian, nobody would ever know, unless you're a public figure.

The biggest thing with Wright was that Obama had named him his spiritual adviser.  (fox news) Kung sa Bohol pa na, would we elect a governor nga iyang adviser hates bohol and ingon pa si Wright "not god bless america, god damn america" , ug ingani sa bohol , would you support him ? hypothetical lang gud, butang ta atong mayor, ug iyang ka-close nga adviser would say "dili God bless Tagbilaran kundi , I-sumpa sa Ginoo ning Tagbilaran." Dili kaha ta maghuna-huna ? For me, our leaders are there to protect us, even if I'm not an American, but I live here so I also expect that the leaders of this country are going to protect this land.  Unsaon nalang if our leaders don't love our country, bisan ma PInas pa...well, kita bitaw tawn ta unsa nahitabo sa PIlipinas. It gets back to my point ganina sa vested interest.   If you don't have any attachments, dili gyud kintahay bug-at sa imong dughan. Ah basta, sabta nalang.

Here's a clip of Michelle Obama.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WNGjawtP48

As a Filipino, I would like our President to be Maka-Pinoy no. 1, As someone living in America, It would be nice if our President here too is Maka-America No. 1. After all, they are our leader, our champion....and ga balik-balik nasad ko. Ahak ! :P

His association with terrorists is not thesame as you befriending criminals in an act of mercy. Do you invite them to your home and have dinner with them ? dili nang pista ha, kana bang inato, family affair lang. That kind of closeness.  I'm sure, if I looked hard enough, naa sad ko mga friends siguro nga considered less than nice. I mean, akong ex bf mismo nga dugay2 sad mi ato. Pero enough about that, akong point ani is, Its different if you know people  casually lang. Lahi na na nga istorya kung suod mo, outside of work, or outside of charity work.

hala, gapa labi gyud ko... hehehe

Drug use... basin this is idealistic, but maybe not. The man is going to be the president of the biggest economy in the world, when you're in high school in the US, you are 15-18 yrs old, dili preha sa ato nga 13-16. Meaning, naa na itawn silay buot. He showed bad judgement then and when Russia invaded Georgia, he didnt have any judgement, but changed his story 3 times. (Fox news). I know, you gotta give the guy a chance, pero as I've said time and time again, "the lesser evil"...naa pa jud ko pahabol,  Why would we settle when we have another choice ? Preha ra gud na if we're picking out a pig for our fiesta lechon. ngano kadto mang niwang nga naa may tambok, preha ra man ug presyo ?

As nice as it sounds that we all say he's changed. We should give everyone a chance, if we had a better choice would we pick him ? back to our hometown, if we had two candidates, one has a clean record, the other has a murky past, di ba, automatic adto jud ta sa nindot ug record ?  We put our leaders in pedestals gud. we look up to them. How can we look up to them kung maglisod ta ug hangad nila ? figuratively lang gud pud.. its a personal matter, but maybe because my ex boyfriend who beat me up and always promised he's gonna changed never did. the effects of drug abuse... worst thing was that I didnt even know he was a druggie until we broke up. He said he didnt do drugs anymore when we were together, but it was a lie...u know na, everything comes out when you've split already. Ok, so this is a personal issue, I don't trust druggies, past and present.

Lastly...promise...human na jud ko after ani.

Yes, its unfair to make sweeping generalizations, but I don't think you can blame me if this is what is going on in your immediate part of the world.

When I was new in the US, I loved rap and hip hop music. When you turn on the evening news, most of the crimes are commited by these kind of people. Two months ago, CNN had a special titled "Black in America". Accdg to CNN, Black Americans are 13% of the entire US population but 50% of all murders and homicides are committed to and by Black Males.

here's someone's blog :
http://theblackpoliticalreview.wordpress.com/2007/08/10/african-americans-are-50-of-all-murder-victims/

here's the CNN webby talking about it :

As for my "hungihong" comment, this is what happens when we have a get together. My MIL is a nurse, my Auntie is also a nurse, I have 3 close friend nurses not related to me and 4 cousins that are nurses. Kung magsugod na gani ug complain bahin sa work, guess what, thesame feedback about their co-workers nga itum. They're not from thesame state sad and most of them havent met each other. MIL is in Florida, Auntie is in Texas, 1 friend is in North Carolina and the other two are here in Texas, My cousins are in Chicago, New York and New Jersey. Pero they say thesame things. About the babies and the lazy attitudes in the hospital.

Personal experience ? nakatilaw ko work sa Home Depot pag first pa nako diri. Ang mga babaye pwera buyag, sige lang bugno2. At least, among themselves ra sad, so that's fine.  Sa naka work nako as an accountant, diha gi fire 3 kabuok itum kay nasakpan ga "ehem" sa offis. Ahay, pait, wa ko labot ato ha.

If you ever watch Maury Povich, they have specials about women who already gave a paternity test to 9 men and they don't know the father of their child. Unsa naman jud kabiga-on nga 9 kalaki imong gi "ehem" in that 2 week period nga fertile ka in a month ? Maka dani ug tan-aw because its so unbelievable .

Illinois Lottery Draws 666 on Heels of Obama Victory

The day after a senator from Illinois, is elected president, the Pick 3 lottery in Illinois comes up 666. It's happened before, notably in Pennsylvania (12 times, including one time as part of a scam and once earlier this year, in Maryland. Some are jokingly (I hope) calling him the antichrist as a result.

Ang abortion diri dili lang man kay motikangkang dayun ug mabusog ipa abort. daghan man process before going into that procedure, like sa rape case which pwerteng daghanan diri, most women raped (simbako palayo ug mahitab nako) di jud gusto nga mag samkon sa bata sa nag rape nako! i have to terminate it.

Amen.

I am and will always be completely AGAINST abortion.

Ging,

You do have a point about the small businesses, however, the majority of Americans are of the middle class, of the working class. The average American makes no more than $50,000 a year. The middle class, by right, is the workhorse of the United States economy. They bear the brunt of the taxes initiated by government. And they do pay taxes; the point of the tax revamp, is to provide breathing space for the already taxed-out middle class Americans.

Those who earn more than $250,000 a year are now clamoring for no taxes? For over 8 years they have enjoyed the tax breaks of Bush, and these said tax breaks were initiated to support the failed Bush economic policy of 'Trickle Down Effect'.

Preposterous. It has done nothing for our economy; aside from excessive military spending, continued exporting of American Jobs to foreign countries at the EXPENSE of the American Middle Class. Failure.

These so called tax breaks for the wealthy elite have done nothing; clearly it is evident that the main engine of the American economic system is the American Middle Class. You want to stimulate the economy? Give him tax cuts and he will spend it on the market; as the middle class is the target consumer.

If you are an attorney who makes more than $400,000 a year, or a physician/surgeon who earns more than $1,500,000 a year, or a business owner who grosses more than $800,000, then you can afford some taxes.

The middle class is the work horse of this country. The majority of Americans are of the middle class.

Additionally, even if a nurse makes $30-60 an hour, he or she will not hit over $250,000 a year. Perhaps if there are two nurses working together, but individually no. That is the salary range of a starting attending-physician. :)

And kana mga outsourcing na matanggal.. tho I am working in one of them, dugai pana and dili na madali dali.. But I do agree na i impose higher tax sa ila. since luoy pud ang uban nga Americans.

Target companies that Obama wants to tax are the Oil Companies as well as large businesses such as Walmart, Target, etc.

Prior to this, these large billion-dollar companies have enjoyed tax-free write offs from the incumbent Bush Administration.

While the American economy struggles and the average American struggles; these companies lavish in their profits. Now they will share their wealth. And pay the due taxes that most of us average-everyday Americans have to.

Pay Up, baby! :)

Ging More,

Thanks for your posts.  Just wondering, why in the world would you think that I might think your posts were against me?  You were not attacking me personally.  :) You are only attacking the president-elect of the USA.  Well, attacking might not be the right word as you think you are only sharing the truth.  I must admit there's some truth to what you said like the status of black kids in America.  But as to how you define "illegitimate", tsk tsk tsk, lahi ra sa akong definition, which is alright because we have different minds.  I will not even delve into which one is closer to the definition in the dictionary. hehehe Bitaw, I don't know how often do you want him to say that his mother and grandparents who raised him were white people.  It's in his books.  He said it so when he accepted the nomination and countless times.  He froze his campaign skeds to be with his white grandmother who was dying.  I guess, that's not enough for you. After his parents divorced, he only saw his father and his Kenyan relatives once. How many times did he say he was specifically black except that we can see it! hehehe  But really, I am done classifying skin colors of Obama's family.  It's insignificant to the issues at hand.

On Maury, I am sorry Ging More, I don't watch shows like that. In my opinion, pareho ra na'g Jerry Springer. Going back to those delinquent black kids, what you said was true.  President-elect Obama acknowledged that and so did Bill Cosby.  Naturally, some black people didn't take well their comments well but tough luck!   On Fox, I don't watch as much that station (especially that show hosted by Sean Hannity!) for almost the same reason that you don't watch CNN.

One of those people interviewed after Obama won in the election, she said she didn't vote for Obama but for the sake of her country, she will help and pray that Obama will be true to his promises and that he will be able to save her country from misery brought about by economic collapse, wars, among other things.  That's hoping for the best.  That's remarkable to me!

Bitaw oi, it's pointless to argue on these issues because we both have our minds set already on what we believe in.  We both think we are believing what's the truth but for all we know, we are only believing what was fed on us from different medium of information. In most times too, we got confused of what's the truth and what's only our opinion.  So, I've said my piece. Americans had spoken and spoken clear, as what McCain said in his concession speech.  Barack Obama is now the president-elect of the United States of America!

I had a conversation with a fellow medical student who was complaining about how Obama will increase taxes for working folks, and he included in his argument how we would suffer because we would eventually be making over the $250,000 range.

He made a rather rude comment saying that the taxes would inhibit one's ability to buy a Ferrari or a Catermaran Yacht.

I was outraged at this comment. If one is able to afford, with his means, an expensive luxury car or a yacht, then one can easily pay taxes that categorize his salary earnings.

Yes, naturally, if one earns more, then they will pay more taxes. If one earns $500,000 a year, then his or her tax payment will probably be around $100,000 (which is around 20% of his gross earnings).

But that leaves that individual with net earnings of $400,000.

That is equivalent to an excess of $33,333 a month.

That in itself, is already the yearly income of many individuals.

Think about it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Fellow AMERICANS,

Despite our differences and our different upbringings, the will of the people has been mandated.

Senator Barack Obama has already been elected as President.

And this man will soon take the oath of office as the 44th President of These United States. The Chief of the House, The Symbol of the American State and Power.

I'm too braindead from work to redo all of that, but Yes, he is already the president, nothing we can do about it but hope for the best.

As Americans, Sons and Daughters of Liberty,

It is our duty to support our President, and the path of our Precious American Fatherland.
I am optimistic for this new administration, and want to see the reclamation of America's apex in global politics.

May the Lord God continue to bless the United States.
And the championing of the American Cause.

On war in Mindanao you used as metaphor, I was in Mindanao at those times that the unrest happened.  One time, on my way home from school, I had to cover my head with my bare hands hoping the bullets could not pierce through my hands as I was caught in between gun battle between the military and the rebels.  So yes, I understand what you are trying to say.  And yes, I am here in America and felt the struggle of the people as we ourselves feel the crunch too.  I help feed the needy which are growing in great numbers each week which is evident of ordinary people's sufferings.

At the last week of the presidential campaign, Arnold the California Governor spoke in one of McCain's campaign.  He was obviously anti-Obama but how come he is now proposing to increase sales taxes in California and furlough one day each month all state employees to result in a pay cut of 5 per cent.  Not only that, he will eliminate two national holidays, commute overtime to vacation leaves, etc.  These are some measures he deemed right at this state of financial crisis.  If Obama is inheriting an economy which is so healthy, I don't think he would even think of mentioning tax increase during the very critical presidential campaign.

So I'll end with a prayer that God will bless the Obama administration so we and the whole world may all have a better life.

Grazie

Hopefully, (since there's nothing we can do about it now), things won't be as bad and he can actually do some good. For myself, I try hard to take care of myself and my family. I only need the government to take care of my country, or in this case, where I live.  Case in point, terrorist attacks.

Also, I hope he won't be as naive as he has displayed in the campaign period. because if he is, we're...well, to put it mildly, in deep poo-poo.

Ate Ging, after meeting a lot of people online, I'm just cautious, a lot of people are not as level headed as you.  As you said, we're both set in what we believe in and we have our reasons, lets leave it at that.

For Lorenzo,    Funny thought ... If most Pinoys would like to control who to give their money to, they'd just set up charities in the Philippines, benefiting Filipino charities. Afterall, as an individual, your tax rate is based on your Adjusted Income...that is net of all charitable donations you have given out.

But then again, this isnt an original idea, the wealthy have already set up their tax shelters all over the world. I guess that leaves the ones who are not quite wealthy yet, but just in that threshold to really hurt in the tax revamp.  8)

Oh your friend with the Ferrari ? if he's paid his taxes already , let him have his toy, he worked for it.  ;) As long as he pays the right taxes, I don't care. Now tax evasion , he can go to jail for that. I don't think he meant tax evasion, probably doesnt want his taxes any higher but willing to pay the taxes that he has right now. There has to be some reward after a long days work, right ? mine's a bar of chocolate..some people...well...to each his own.  8) 8) 8)

That is true. To each his or her own. Good philosophy in life :)

Very Libertarian-esque.

I heard something about this during coffeebreak. Havent read the whole story though.

Last time I visited California was in 2005. the sales tax at the mall was 8% or maybe it was 9% not sure, gave me a little shock. The tolls we $6, which was another "yikes" moment for me since at that time, I was living in florida, with just 6%  tax and our tolls were 50 cents, 75 cents, $1.50 at the most.

Glad I'm in Texas. Or maybe I'm just behind in the news. no sales taxes going up (as of 2 hours ago, i got sandwich bread) , homes are still selling and investors are going nuts investing in rental houses.  No activity in the normal folks though, just the very rich (meaning those who can afford $1M++ homes and the ones who have enough to invest.  Investors in my market, ones that can afford 20% down, or in a $30k foreclosure rental property, $6k. not rich by a long shot, just gutsy. Those foreclosures came down from $50k to $30 but appraisals went down anywhere from $10k to $20k though.

Guess we'll just hang on tight and see what happens. If worse gets to worse, it'll be home sweet home Bohol for me (if I have enough to buy a ticket hahaha !)   been a while since I last visited too..
