IN PHOTOS: IMPROVEMENT NEVER STOPS!
A statement of conviction and determination coming from our Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade as he keyonotes the virtual Economy Update 2021 organized by the Asia CEO Forum today, 16 March 2021.
“Good projects, better projects, never stops. It should not stop and therefore, the challenge of having people to continue putting the paradigm must continually be there,” Secretary Tugade emphasized, as he squarely addressed the prevalent issue of continuity of all infrastructure projects beyond the term of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
In his remarks, Secretary Tugade presented the status updates on the various projects and programs of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) under the “BUILD, BUILD, BUILD” infrastructure program, highlighting the ones that have been completed and providing a preview of the projects that are in offing in its four (4) sectors in Aviation and Airports, Maritime, Railways, and Road Transport.
He likewise recalled the enormity of the challenges in the transport sector when the Duterte administration assumed office in 2016, where he made mention of the notable issues which the DOTr immediately addressed and resolved, including the "Tanim Bala" problem at NAIA, the poor maintenance and deterioriating condition of the MRT-3, the huge backlog of license plates and driver's license cards, corruption in bids and awarding of contracts, permits and licenses, and the woeful state of airports, seaports and port facilities across the country.
In narrating how he addressed these challenges, and how he responded to the very simple but profound marching order of the President during his first Cabinet meeting, Secretary Tugade said, "We at the DOTr accepted the challenge and said to our beloved President, 'Yes! Mr. President, we will do our utmost best to make the Filipino life more comfortable and convenient.'"
And he expounded by saying, "If you have to make the Filipino life more comfortable, there must be mobility and, there must be connectivity. As I speak today, I have presented to you in generic terms, the connectivity, and mobility of the DOTr has made on the various platforms and sectors, and on the ground, to make the Filipino life comfortable."
With the theme, "Recover, Reset, Reignite for 2021," the virtual economy update organized by the ASIA CEO Forum aims to provide comprehensive information dissemination in the various sectors of the economy, and to recognize the accomplishments and initiatives of a particular sector amid the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The ASIA CEO Forum, hosted by its Chairman Richard Mills, is the largest and only national business event series in the Philippines, that is geared towards promoting the country as a premier business destination to the world.
