Press Release: San Miguel Corporation kicked off the free vaccination of its employees and other economic frontliners through its Ligtas Lahat COVID-19 Vaccination Program on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at the La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City.
The activity was attended by SMC President Ramon Ang, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer and Vaccine Czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr, Health Sec. Francisco Duque III, testing czar Sec. Vince Dizon, and Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos.
In his remarks during the activity, Galvez highlighted the Bayanihan spirit and the “Walang Iwanan” attitude that has enabled the government and private sector to work together to address the challenges brought about by the pandemic.
“Walang iwanan is the pledge that people make to each other when they are faced with seemingly insurmountable odds. Walang iwanan means they will not let go of each other no matter the difficulties that come their way,” he said.
Galvez likewise recognized the major contributions of SMC in the nation’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Truly, San Miguel Corporation has shown that it is a big brother who will continue to honor its commitment to lend a helping hand not only to its thousands of employees, but to all Filipinos across the country,” he said.
Galvez cited some of the interventions SMC has carried out which include opening its own testing facility in 2020, and deploying company doctors and nurses to assist in government vaccination sites.
“Kung marami pong natulungan San Miguel Corporate na mga pasyenteng may severe COVID cases, it’s now time for the government to reciprocate what you have done.” he said.
Meanwhile, Dizon and Duque congratulated the employees who will be receiving their first vaccine dose.
Under its Ligtas Lahat COVID-19 Vaccination Program, SMC aims to vaccinate 70,000 employees against COVID-19 in support of the National Vaccination Program, and to help the country achieve population protection within this year.
As of June 14, the government has administered a total of 7,045,380 anti-COVID jabs.
Of this number, 980,471 medical frontliners, 486,945 senior citizens, 429,301 persons with comorbidities, and 7,067 essential have been fully vaccinated.
