Amonsot expected to breeze thru scales

Cebu Daily News

CEBU, Philippines—Boholano Czar Amonsot's weight is just about perfect as he prepares himself for tomorrow's weigh-in for his fight against undefeated WBA interim lightweight king Michael Katsidis at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

As of yesterday, Amonsot has remained at 136 pounds, hovering just a pound above the lightweight limit.

Amonsot did a light run for 35 minutes in the morning, before working out at the Vegas Boxing gym at the Sahara Avenue just a few miles away from the Mandalay Bay. The workout consisted of 10 mins on the skipping rope, 4 rounds of shadow-boxing, three rounds of mitt work, and light abdominal exercises for what trainer Villamor described as 'maintenance training.'

Trainer Villamor said there's really nothing much to do, except maintain Amonsot's level of conditioning going into the weigh-in and fight night.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim also took a break from his constituents in Bohol to fly to Las Vegas to provide the much needed support to Czar Amonsot who is like a son to him. Mayor Lim and his old time buddy, Lito of Las Vegas tendered Amonsot, Villamor and cutman Tony Martin dinner at Mandalay Bay.

Mayor Lim gave Czar Amonsot a pleasant pep talk only a good father could provide to a son facing a very challenging but reachable task of conquering a world championship belt, according to Philboxing.com.

“In your fight, you have to treat it as the last fight of your life. So you have to do your very best. Be sure that your effort will not only satisfy you but most importantly all the other people watching your fight live at Mandalay Bay and all those watching in their homes all over the world, especially, your kababayan in the Philippines. You have to amaze them, make them proud and happy. When you fight, you have to fight as Czar Amonsot, not like any other boxer but Czar Amonsot, the champion with your own identity and boxing skills,” Mayor Lim advised.

“During the fight do not ever get angry. Keep your poise, talk to yourself and most important of all, like any good athlete and son to your mother, ask God for help,” added Mayor Lim.

BLAH BLAH and more Blah?

1.) Why is it that this mayor shouts at his workers in cityhall and makes them feel in compentant?
(Back home thats on the job harassment and you get sued for it as well.)
2.) This mayor has a radio show and lamblasts his bad temper all over the radio for all ages to hear? just what kind of a leadership skill is he leading in a way of a good example for the youths of the future?
3.) Why does this man who has done allot of good things as well shout at persons and take away their livelyhood as well from under them?
then accuses all persons who live in illegal shambles as jobless thieves?
When in fact some have held driver jobs in local dated areas in parts of the city for over 3 years?
4.) Why is it that mayor Lim does not give an alternative to housing and relocation for these indignant human beings? I did a human interest story on an event two years ago for a newspaper i write for and Mayor was pissed off really bad at me. When you do good things and turn around and do something mean that is so big that it out weights what he has done nice in just the way that he goes about it.
I seen children with deformed legs and feet who could not walk or hold out their legs straight to stand on their own or even crawl being kicked out of what was their home.
I seen a widowed mother of eight children who were clean and looked very healthy, and well taken care of for what their mom had to offer, weeping away as the city officials sat like old hens on rotten eggs while construction workers tore down the place what these persons had settled into as their homes. As the people here have no jobs to take up as they are limited here.
5.) police SSup Inking wants us the media to be a part of the five elements to help in being able to assist and help in fighting and solving crime but Mayor wants to blackout the police records to the media? Y'Claro Jyud!
Mayor in Cebu when he tells the people in squatter houses that they will be evicted he has a different kind of compassion when it comes to these persons who would end up homeless he offers them money and temporary housing and does not put them out in the street with handicapped kids like your "Precious Tito"
I may be a foreigner but i have lived here since 2002 and i have seen allot of crap that should not be going on here?
Even the host of this web page once told me that his country should be improved same as the other countries that were thought as and rated as third world countries also. he said they they are no longer considered third world the government has cleaned it up for it's people.
previous third world countries make the Philippines look bad.
How can you get better if you have Pooh Pooh heads for leaders who take everything so personal?
Then they behave the way they do?
These boxxers do nothing for the community and why is it that if Mayor can give such fatherly advice for them then why is it that he can not do that same thing for the people here as he is the father of our city then if he can not then he is what we refer to as doubled standard!
Onicul85 please come back to the Philippines in Bohol and strut up and down CPG Avenue and gasp and gag and choke when you smell the reeks of "Hovack" coming from the drainage systems in this city and this was a project of "TITO"!

preciousnpolite i agree with you.....i've got more questions about him too!
Many years ago when I was still in Bohol, Lim been running for office and NEVER GOT ELECTED. He got elected because of a rich person who back him up! Pretty much behind him all the way.
People have no idea boxing is part of gambling. Huge money are bet on it, and that's why until now, i'm still puzzled where the mayor gets all the money to support his boxers even all the way to USA  ::)

Franklin, maybe the things we are saying are sinking in to these persons. I can see why mike put up this web site so he could get others to really talk about how it is  here and not always treat it like some fantasy place that it's really not.
The corruption has made some of the people inhibited to speak out as they are ashamed of what others may think of them? I like persons who are doer's persons who can get goals done. I do not dig persons who can not take action on their words.
This country can not be improved on persons who behave meager minded.
I have noticed that some politicians are very selfish and greedy and only want the notoriety and being guest of honnor at functions from a family name only.
I have noticed that when I go to the offices of most city administrators or provincail persons they are no where to be found only their office assistants.
When you ask them something they say "I DO NOT KNOW?"
I have lately found out that many people are not honest here. Persons I could trust before are even beginning to disappoint me here in Bohol.
I stay home allot now as it is just no security to go out doors.
I also stay at home because lately I get angry here and do not want to have outburst to certain situans here. I am a popular person from being a friendly and fun person in the media here and so many know me here because of it but. I just want to be cool at times.
Take care everyone!
