Airline passenger fixes faulty plane
« on: August 21, 2009, 02:08:34 AM »

You don’t hear stories like this every day, but Thomas Cook have released a statement saying that one of its passengers fixed a mechanical fault with one of its planes.

Holiday makers onboard the Thomas Cook flight TXC9641 from Menorca were told that they faced a delay of up to eight hours because of a mechanical fault with the plane and they had to wait for the engineer to be flown in from the UK.

On hearing this, one of the passengers announced to staff that he was a qualified aircraft engineer working for Thomsonfly and offered to try and fix the fault. The mechanical fault was fixed and the Boeing 757 landed safely in Glasgow only half an hour late.

In a statement from Thomas Cook, a spokeswoman said that the company had followed strict procedures to ensure that the man was qualified to work on the plane saying that: “We checked his licence and verified he was who he said he was, and he was able to fix the problem to avoid the delay”.

Adding that, “We are very grateful that he was on the flight that day”.

I wonder if he got paid overtime for that.
