I don't know Fr. Skelton personally. I just saw him perform since he's one of the members of the Singing Priests of Tagbilaran. In my own opinion, it's better to give him a second chance. We haven't heard his side yet. Surely, he has his own struggles, too. Who knows, he had been a victim, himself? We should not condemn him. Instead, we'll pray for him. Condemn the sin, not the sinner.

He has been, for a long time now, enjoying his second chance.

I mentioned earlier that I was able to talk to him on Friday the article came out in the newspaper on Sunday just two days after when I had discussed these things with him.

I am surprised these press releases are saying that he had hung up the phone, and had refused comment? Do we know if that is really what happened?

I have called his cell phone a few times and he takes the tim to talk about what it is that may be troubling someones mind at that time.
I do not see him as the person being described there in the write ups.

That AP write up was same as the news write up that was printed in the Sunday Post last Sunday April 18th. It was written possibly by a Filipino who is having a link with Associated Press (AP) sort of similar to what you call Reuters here.

Why did this person not contact him in person versus over the phone instead? I did not have a problem meeting him at BQ and talking with him direct.

He did not have a problem talking to me about what had taken place in his past, in fact he seemed rather ashamed about it. He told me it was true and he it was in his past that he has served his time for the crime and he is definitely not happy about it.

If your are the same as I am you would hit direct questions to the person with the alleged problem and ask questions straight to get the right answers from the horses mouth.

Especially if your the one to post up news regarding such information as this is a mans past life we are talking about.

Fr. Skeleton has served his time and as Bishop Medroso said in the write up I would have to take the side of the Bishop on this one. I really have a lot of respect for Bishop Medroso here. He is a very educated person in my eyes.

Let him be alone in his second chance at life, and let him continue to be a corrected going straight man now in the same waythat he has been in some time now.

The highest homily an evangelist can deliver and the greatest praise he can sing is how he lives. For along time ngana bitaw ang simbahan, mahilig og tago2x (secrecy) ug baylo2x (reassignments/reshuffling). But since the scandal of the early 2000s "zero tolerance" na ang ilang approach to priests' abuses (Google "Dallas Charter Sex Abuse") which is good news. Karon ang "purgation" (hehehe) is sweeping all over Europe. Philippines should follow suit.

But still beware... the so-called "predators" are not only within the ranks of the clergy... but in all walks of life and in many families amongst us. Paghikot jud kapunay ug "lata" aron kung naay manghilabot, mag tingog-tingog, bwahahaha...

I've met some priests and pastors who have voluntarily confessed their past sinfulness and offer their present lives as testimony of how Christ has changed them. Regretfully, Fr. Skelton had to wait for this media barrage to come out in the open about his past. A forced confession has doubtful sincerity. Openness about one's past, especially for those who have dedicated themselves to the Gospel, is also submitting oneself to personal accountability about one's renewed life.

St. Paul in his epistles makes it a habit to open up about his depraved past as Saul, the persecutor of Christians, to drive his point of the need for man's salvation through Jesus Christ. Paul also proclaimed that we actually stand equal before God as sinners, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

Christ himself said that he did not come for the good men, but for the bad: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

I guess the media should stop hounding Fr. Skelton for interviews, but instead do their homework silently among those he has worked with or the youth he has surrounded himself with since he was ordained.

Needless to say, Christian faith is all about second chances. If this man is found out to have really straightened his ways, praise God! If not, he better face the music, not sing it!

Well written and well said, Tito Ben. Accountability and transparency is a must in any situation, even in most sacred of positions in human society. Forgiveness and second chances are one of the basis of Christian Faith and in the Christian Way of Life. If Skelton is truly repentant of his past sins, to God be Glory and Praise. For He is, indeed, a merciful and forgiving God. If not, then it would be best to prevent such horrific situations from occurring again.

It is hypocritical for some to debase Roman Catholic Ecclesiasy for the 1.7% of pedophiliac cases committed by clergy, when the same acts are prolific in Protestant Churches as high as 10%.

This is not a Catholic problem, but as what Father Roel tells us, a problem within the psyche of some individuals, those who have disturbing sexual fetish disorders. And should be dealt appropriately without attacking the Church itself.

I did not have the faintest of ideal that a couple of days later that the Bohol newspapers would come out with the story on Father Joseph Skeleton.

I was not happy that I had read that he refused to have an interview or make a comment how contradicting of them to print no comments when on the other hand he spoke to me in front of my face with me in flesh and bones.

I am a witness that he is not having this no comment status about him. I wish I could see him again in person and have him sign a piece of paper to confirm what he is saying to me is true?

I am saying what I read in Sundays press releases is hard to believe and suspicious on the media level knowing what are the tricks and trades of how media works.

Why is it when you hear gossip or unbelievable things being said about a friend or someone that you may know and then those things you are hearing about them shock you to begin with. Why do you hear the advice from others to ask direct what is the real story?

Yes i have repeated what he said to me alone. but you people do not understand what I am saying so it is at this point at the end of my long sleepy day of doing a medical mission to say that I am tired to keep posting now.

I just want to justify how he had entertained me on the issue. I know now he is a a good person and nice to me.

No one is perfect we live from our mistakes. while we allow our past to haunt us also at the same time.

The story in Post is identical to the AP version at the beginning of this topic?

Because the one I read is written the same way as the the post version without byline.
I will ask him next time I will see him if he refused comment with any media regarding this matter as he knows my association as a PRO for many organizations here. I will try my best to update this matter.

I know what is AP in fact my columns were edited before by a member of the AP in the last months that I had been submitting them...but my publisher a very well known man did not even know what was AP when I had told him who was editing my columns.

It is similar to what is known as Reuters here.......

I will be encoding a paid letter by former x mayor and governor Roland Butalid regarding his feelings about this matter to be known to the public, that was published in yesterdays Chronicle. I am sure you will be having reactions to it.
