Before another crack at a world title,
AJ Banal will be in for the fight of his life against former world champion Luis Alberto Perez on Aug. 28 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
Banal's handlers have started negotiating with Perez's camp and according to ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, the 32-year-old Nicaraguan is willing to come to the Philippines and face Banal.
He said they are close to sealing a deal and are just settling a few of Perez's demands.
"This is the biggest fight for Banal. If he wins this fight, it will give him a good rating because everybody knows Perez because he has fought some big names," said Aldeguer.
Perez is a former two-division world champion and has an impressive record of 26-4 with 17 knockouts.
Banal, who is 21-1-1 with 17 knockouts, is ranked in the top three of three of the four major world boxing sanctioning bodies. He is rated No. 3 in the World Boxing Organization, WBA and IBF but is ranked 12th in the World Boxing Council.
