The eyes of the boxing world will once again be on Mexico, as two of the Philippines' budding sports superstars, Edrin "The Sting" Dapudong and Richard Jun Garcia take a shot at separate world boxing titles against tough Mexican fighters on June 19 in Tepic, Mexico.
Dapudong (17W-2L, 9 KO's) who previously won the WBO Asia-Pacific minimumweight and WBO Oriental flyweight belts and playing under the banner of Braveheart Stable of North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Piñol, will go up against Jesus Jimenez of Mexico for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Belt flyweight title.
Garcia (21W-10L-1D, 5 KO's) for his part, gets another crack for the WBC Silver Belt superflyweight crown opposite Juan Jose Montes also from Mexico.
The WBC Silver belt is a new innovation by the World Boxing Council to give value to many fights that cannot be for a WBC world title but are bouts of great importance.
