Darchinyan came back up thereafter and tried to stand his ground, but Donaire launched a relentless attack en route to scoring a technical-knockout victory going into the dying 55 seconds of the match.
The victory regained for Donaire his stature as one of the world's best pound-for-pound fighter after losing to Guillermo Rigondeaux in their junior-featherweight unification bout last April.
Darchinyan, who was seeking to revive his ailing and ageing career, dominated the early rounds with some strong shots and counterpunches, but failed to avenge his loss to the Filipino Flash in their first encounter in 2007.
While Donaire scored his 32nd victory in 34 fights, 21 of those via knockout, the Raging Bull Darchinyan dropped his win-loss-draw record to 40-5-1.
