Pacquiao has shown signs of wear, tear

While admitting that it would be very foolish to take Manny Pacquiao lightly, the trainer of Brandon Rios told the Mexican media that the Filipino has shown signs of wear and tear that past few fights and that his fighter has the edge in their Nov. 24 showdown in Macau.

“He doesn’t have the same strength,“ said Robert Garcia as he prepares to whip Rios into form for the biggest fight of his career that will take place at the CotaiArena. “Age, punishment in the ring (have slowed Pacquiao down). There are things that nobody can hide.“
Garcia also shrugged off observations that Rios will wound up like another of Garcia’s fighters: Antonio Margarito.
“Brandon is almost 10 years younger than Margarito. Pacquiao was still in his time (back when he beat Margarito on a lopsided decision in Nov. 2010),“ said Garcia, noting that unlike the plodding Margarito, “(Rios is) younger and eager.“
Garcia said that Margarito was at an extreme disadvantage when he faced Pacquiao in Dallas three years ago because he was forced to weigh in at 150 lbs and since Rios and Pacquiao will square off at welterweight (147 lbs), Rios will be at his peak form.
“Rios hits hard,“ said Rios, stressing that Pacquiao better be ready for some heavy pounding on his body.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, has started to work out a sweat in General Santos City under the guidance of his long-time friend Buboy Fernandez, who is the right-hand man of Freddie Roach in Team Pacquiao.
Roach won’t be seeing Pacquiao until the first week of October since the Hall of Fame trainer is busy preparing Miguel Cotto for his Oct. 6 ring return.
Pacquiao said those who have started to count him out are in for a big surprise.
“I am not done yet,“ said Pacquiao, who will be two weeks shy of his 35th birthday when he answers the bell against Rios.
Pacquiao’s last fight was a sixth-round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez and he said he was in total control when he ran into the Mexican’s Hail Mary punch in the dying seconds of the sixth stanza.
