Marquez Calls Out Pacquiao After Beating Diaz
« on: August 02, 2010, 01:05:49 AM »
Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez kept his World Boxing Association lightweight throne with a unanimous 12-round decision over Juan Diaz, then called out Filipino star Manny Pacquaio.

Marquez took a rematch of a slugfest from last year by judges' scores of 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112, improving the 36-year-old fighter's record to 51-5 with one drawn. Diaz fell to 35-4.

Marquez twice lost to Pacquiao and while the Asian superstar has been unable to land a blockbuster fight with unbeaten US veteran Floyd Mayweather, Marquez is hoping he might have a chance at a third swing in the ring with "Pac-Man".

"The trilogy is what I want. It's what the people want," Marquez said. "I will be ready for another fight in December, hopefully Pacquiao." - AFP

Juan Manuel Marquez fight with Juan Diaz proves that he has still a lot left to fight Pacquiao for the third time.

The question is at what weight? Marquez just can't possibly forced manny to come down to his weight.    Manny at this point is already a full blown welterweight and coming down would be a foolish mistake.

If Marquez doesnt see any problem climbing up to manny's weight, then that's his own prerogative if he's really hell-bent to face manny for the third time around. But then again, that would exposed Marquez as a bloated, slow fighter and the fight would be easy picking for manny.

I don't think Marquez has the same reflexes, and the speed and power to neutralize a more vaunted force of a manny pacquiao.
