Russian WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin defended his title late on Saturday in a tough battle against WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck.
Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs) won a 12-round majority decision with scores of 114-114, 116-113 and 116-112 in his favor.
Povetkin won the vacant WBA crown in August 2011 by defeating Ruslan Chagaev in a unanimous points decision in Erfurt, Germany. He defended it by knocking out U.S. challenger Cedric Boswell in the eighth round in Helsinki in December.
Huck (34-2-0, 25 KOs) defended his WBO title eight times before unexpectedly moving to the heavyweight division and challenging Povetkin.
