Rey "Boom-Boom"
Bautista will headline a card, which the ALA Promotions call "the biggest" they have staged, next month at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City on Aug. 28.
Bautista will be fighting alongside some of the best Filipino talents - world-rated Milan Melindo, former world champion Florante Condes and Jimrex Jaca.
After being sidelined for a wrist injury, the 24-year-old Bautista is in for a tough fight against Mexican
Alejandro Barrera.
Bautista, who is from Candijay, Bohol, had reconstructive surgery done on his damaged left wrist. He knocked out his last two opponents, Indonesian Maragin Marbun and Thai Saichon Sotornpitak. This fight is his toughest test to date after his hiatus for close to a year.
Barrera sports an impressive 20-3 record with 13 knockouts and is a former World Boxing Council Continental Americas featherweight and North American Boxing Association super bantamweight champion.
The 30-year-old Mexican has fought the likes of ex-world titlist Cesar Soto and former world title contender Benoit Gaudet.
BIGGEST
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said this is one of the biggest promotions that the Cebu City-based promotional outfit has ever organized.
"This is the first time we have brought in four foreigners since the "Moment of Truth" in 2007. Usually we bring in only two," Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.
Melindo will be up against Japanese Masayuki (17-3, 12 KOs); Condes is taking on Indonesian Sofyan Effendi (10-8-2, 8 KOs); while Jaca faces Pipino Cuevas Jr. (14-5, 12 KOs), the son of the former World Boxing Association welterweight champion in the 70's.
