Yes Lorenzo I read that na. The Catcher In A Rye by J.D. Salinger.  :) haha! Funny, cause I got influenced by the way he dealt with depression and teenage angst! lol.. you know.. ;)  I became a fan of poor little rich boy Holden Caulfield..hehe
And back in my freshmen days I was fond of using the word "horse around" hussh.. ginger is here..

hahahahahah! are you serious? lol, I used to read that book over and over again because I was touched by the almost romantic ending, despite the betrayal of Holden's english teacher. You know, I was so angry at him for taking advantage of Holden during his time of need that I actually displayed an animosity towards my own English teacher at the time of my 2nd year in high school. Wow it seems that I'm talking to a novelisma diay? So what are your favorite novels of all time diay? Maybe you can recommend great ones to us fellow readers as well.

Cheers and keep on reading,

ok. my most?  hahah angels and demons and  digital fortress by Dan Brown. ok I know farout sa ako gipang blurb dre, But I swear! he is different! lol! :) I hate the ending of angels tho, that it was the Camerlengo. He should have stopped on the part nga hurot na ang illuminati! amft. And yes after reading this i got hooked to ambigrams. someday I'll upload pics on my drawings.. but i stopped already. busy na kaayu ko these days and I guess my brain ain't sharp na :) hihi

why digital fortress? because of the way they break codes. and the last word sa novel => 3   hehe!

may i include recommending all the harry potter books? LoL

hahaha don't you dare! (referring to HP books) lolz!
I admit that I'm a pseudo-addict of HP books, however, I reserve the flag of 'best books' to Tolkien works. My favorite book of ALL time would have to be 'The Hobbit'. Secondary favorites are the entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the legendary The Silmarillion. After reading Lord of the Rings and re-reading the Hobbit I became addicted to monograms and the language of the elves, the history of the dwarves, and my favorite character of all time is Thorin Oakenshield, the proud and resilient 'King Under the Mountain' and yes, his death was a beautiful death. A proud death that any king would have wanted, mourned by his subjects, and dying content after wiping out the goblin and orcian army after Smog's demise. I can still remember certain dwarvian and elven verses, and songs, lol.

Pray may I ask, do you ever engage in fantasy, science fiction genre?

Kiams, what is the synopsis of Angels and Demons? I've always wanted to read that but didn't have the stomach to open something like that. The closest angelic-demon war book that I've read was 'Paradise Lost'  and it gives an almost sympathetic view of Lucifer as a rebel, a thinker and a 'freedom fighter'. John Milton casts God as an absolute monarch, unyielding, and unmerciful and Lucifer as a revolutionary thinker so to say. The Angelic hordes of heaven were portrayed as mindless drones and Milton illustrates the demons that followed Lucifer as present day freedom fighters fighting for a common cause. Its a book that makes you think, and tries to portray an antithesis of the the collective's view on the devil and his demons. It questions why it was deigned to be so (referring to the angelic war in heaven). The question arises in my head is : WHY?

uhm Angels - the catholic church
demons - the anti christ group Illuminati
-basic plot is a classic race against time to find a hidden canister of antimatter (a highly explosive substance) and hunt down a serial killer in Rome. As its backdrop, the book debates the question about which is to be trusted - science or religion. It purports to show how the Vatican works as the plot to blow it up is uncovered during the conclave, revealing hidden secrets and mysteries as the story unfolds.
I read this novel when pope John Paul died.. and yes the novel also has its focus on how the new pope is being chosen. Sa story, the top candidates were murdered,,etc.. nahadlok ko ato kay timing raba nga Pope John Paul died and then dia ga basa ko novel nga closely related.lol

Simple Genius
David Baldacci

In a world of secrets, human genius is power. And sometimes it is simply deadly…

Near Washington, D.C., there are two clandestine institutions: the world’s most unusual laboratory and a secret CIA training camp. Drawn to these sites by a murder, ex-Secret Service agent Sean King encounters a dark world of mathematicians, codes and spies. His search for answers soon leads him to more shocking violence—and an autistic girl with an extraordinary genius. Now, only by working with his embattled partner, Michelle Maxwell, can he catch a killer…and solve a stunning mystery that threatens the entire nation.

"The Things They Carried" is a really good book! I read it during my junior year in high school and I have read it a couple times since then when I have the chance. It gives you a glimpse of the war life and how war affects the way a soldier thinks and acts towards people afterwards. It's a remarkable book.  ;D

Ecological Effects of Wastewater by E.B Welch.

Its more of a limnological text book but its effective in having a general understanding of the proteolyotic discourse.

I like it, and I highly recommend it to the scientific reader.

Sorry nalimutan ko ang tubag sa Why or ngano man "Awaken The Giant Within",  the book says that there are a lot of hidden potentials deep in the inner most of our being which are untapped... it needs some motivation and discipline to unleash that power...

Dong, that's one thing I like about Mitch Albom kay even if he is a sports writer, he is good in communicating deep emotions, human emotions not the hyper emotions in sports arena. :D  His writing is so simple and understandable.

Did you read his two other books, Five People You Meet in Heaven and the latest one, For One More Day?  I recommend that too!

oh it was a great book, 'te.

It's entitled Herman, written by Lars Saabye Christensen.

Ang synopsis ani is that an eleven year old boy named Herman starts to notice girls and in turn, be noticed by them. He's in a predicament in that he starts to loose hair; as in all of it. Alot of imagination, hilarious jokes, but i couldn't help but cry for his hair. LOL

This book teaches about friendship an most of all, acceptance and love!

The Body Snatchers, authored by Jack Finney.

Quite erie, rivetting, and most of all based on a true story.
Set in early 19th century during the age of Science and Anatomical Explosion.
Grave diggers murdered people, dug up the deceased in order to sell the carcasses to medical institutions for anatomical dissection; for teaching purposes.

Based on the true story of Burke and Hare.

A must read for the medical reader. Or for the intense-action genre lovers.

I highly recommend 'The Grapes of Wrath'.

Why? It will paint a beautiful view of human aspiration. And the need to conquer all limitations, fears, economic disparity. Most of all, it reassures the reader that Hope is needed in life. Hope leads to one's overcoming of all fears, all walls and limitations.

This book was a personal favorite during my high school days.

"OH GOD ARE YOU THERE IT IS ME MARGERAT"

This book I highly recommend to young girls just about to go into puberty.

The book will enlighten you through the puberty stage and you will not feel alone with reading about Margerats first time to get her menstruation and body changes while at that stage in life as far as being a woman.

My books are nearly 1,000 - personal collection. They're kept in Dampas at the house that I rented before. I couldn't transport them to Thailand. Now I have hundreds of ebooks. Smiley

I have been intending to read Stephen Covey's book but I was always sidetracked by other pursuits. Management consultants would always recommend this book.

Um? I could use some of those books to enlighten me Mike. Are those the books you were going to give to me before? I love books they are great for character building.

Now I am reading about Trans formative Communication. It is very positive!

Another book that I highly recommend is one for the science fiction lovers.

The book is called 'Contact Harvest' written by Joseph Staten.

The book provides the preliminary information for the Halo Series , which is based on the popular video game. The book talks about the Human wars for colonization in the Harvest System and there it makes contact with the Covenant Empire.

Starting the long-fought Human-Covenant Galactic War.

Amazing book. A must read for the sci-fi fanatics.

if you like to know more about history of World War II this book I recommend;
 The Rape Of Nanking
(An undeniable history in photograps)
by: Shi Young
      James Yin
Edited by Ron Dorfman
Foreword by Desmond M. Tutu
why? to remind the world of the forgotten holocaust of WWII, and to honor history and answer any attempt to deny or change it.

Aira,

I read that book 2 years ago. A really great read, I admit.

It is not meant for the faint of heart, I submit to that. But it really is a good book, as you said, to remind us of the crimes committed by the Japanese in World War II.

It illustrates the savagery that Man-Kind can inflict on himself.

I recommend to any medical student, "Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary"

I can't stress enough the importance of this book.
In the classroom--its essential
In the hospital floor--its essential (maybe the smaller pocket carry-on version, LOL)

So get it.

So one of my best reads is Stephen R. Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Naa ra ba'y quotation ang author, si Covey, dinhi sa libro gikan ni Aristotle that TB tambays should ponder:

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
                                                         -- Aristotle

I also have this book. This was given to us by the president of our company during one of our team building seminar in Tagaytay about ten years back. Nagkamoritsing na intawon ang mga pages sa pagbinali balik kog basa kay nindot man jod ni for people who want to excell in their fields. I like the 'Circle of Influence' to ones life, a way on how to focus your interest for something you wanted to achieve in your endeavor. I like the style of his writing when he dared to explore in layman's point of view on the proper use of our brain in the 'Brain Dominance Theory'. This is highly recommended.

Other books I like to read, were all written by Robert Lodlum; Silver Matlock, Farcical Mosaic, etc.
Classic but still burning with lessons in life aside from the Bible is written by Dale Carnegie, "How to Win friends and Influence people." This is also highly recommended.

Books written by Filipino authors: "Several Springs, One Stream" by Valentino Sitoy Jr.; "Not by Power Alone", by Jovito Salonga Jr.

Yes, Tuesdays With Morie by Mitch Albom was one tearjerker book.  If you haven't read his other two books, Five People You Meet In Heaven and For One More Day, I recommend those books too.

I am currently reading a book entitled, "The Filipino Physician Today : A Practical Guide to Holistic Medicine"

It is written by Eva Irene Yu-Maglonzo.

The book helps students of medicine learn about the different roles of the physician today; health care provider, educator and counsellor, researcher, social mobilizer and manager. It develops a biopsychosocial approach and addresses the patient holistically --- a practical guide for individual learning as well as for classroom discussion.

A must read for the Filipino/ Filipino-American Medical Student.

I totally endorse this book.

I also highly recommend 'Tactical Emergency Care: Military and Operational Out-of-Hospital Medicine'

Written by Robert De Lorenzo.

This book explores the new and rapidly developing area of tactical EMS, a special blend of prehospital care and military-style tactical operations encompassing field and wilderness medicine under austere and often hostile conditions. This is the first commercial book to focus on military medicine at the EMT/military medic level. Focusing on the unique prehospital problems facing tactical EMT's, the book covers wounds from conventional weapons as well as nuclear biologic, and chemical weapons. Medical evacuation, environmental medicine and triage as well as ambulatory care and topics unique to EMT's providing law enforcement medical support are also addressed. Medical information coders etc.

Great read. Definitely complements Med. Legal Ethics. :P

The title already captured my attention. :)

hi lorenzo, this is a must read novel. i guarantee you, you won't regret reading it. it's movie has just started filming, and the cast is magnificent... :)
"In a time of civil war, famine and religious strife, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against this backdrop, lives entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age."
