Six Bohol towns have distinguished themselves as finalists in the 2007 regional child-friendly search as they competed against all other towns of their categories in Cebu, Negros, Siquijor and Bohol.

The towns however need to earn 85 or 80 more points to be declared winners in the regional categories for their respective classifications.

The towns of Inabanga, Loon, Tubigon in Bohol made it to the competition finals after a thorough evaluation. They topped the first to third class municipality categories.

For the fourth to sixth class municipalities, Catigbian, Batuan and Calape made it to the regional finals, data from the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC-7) recently bared.

Also in the region’s 1st and 3rd class municipality category is the town of Sibulan in Negros Oriental.

For the 4th to 6th class municipality category, Bohol towns also have the town of Dauin in Negros Oriental as co-finalist.

Winners get P50T 000 prize, a child-friendly seal, a trophy and a plaque of recognition from the Regional Sub Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC-7).

The towns would then be evaluated on their local nutrition policy, budget, programs, services and community support that address issues and concerns of children in their areas of jurisdiction.

The prize the towns get could only be used however for capability building for service providers; repair/upgrade infrastructure such as health centers, day care centers, reading centers and rehab centers for street children and children in contact with the law; purchase of equipment and supplies for the innovative projects approved by the CWC.

Upon winning, the towns also earn the accolade as Presidential awardee for the Most Child Friendly Municipalities.

According to a press release from the Philippine Information Agency Regional Office, DSWD regional director Teodulo Romo said regional finalists in their categories doesn't mean they are already winners.

Romo explained that for a town to win in its category it has to earn 90 points while for the component/independent city category and in the 1st and 3rd class municipality category, a finalist has to earn 85 points to win.

As for the 4th and 6th class municipality category a finalist has to earn 80 points to be declared as winner.
