Young girls warned on having foreigners as textmates
Published: December 10, 2006 by The Bohol Standard
Young girls, mostly high school students, are warned against prowling foreigners who approach and later befriend them through texting.
THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Bohol Field Unit here confirmed receiving a letter from a parent asking for assistance to investigate the activity of an American guy (name withheld) who allegedly frequents shopping malls and victimizing unsuspecting young girls.
Investigators refused to show their findings as of now, classifying such information as confidential.
CIDG-Bohol chief P/SInsp. Germano Mallari, who assumed office about three weeks ago, said he would appreciate parents to come to his office and file a formal complaint against these foreigners, if indeed their children are victims of this new mode of sexual exploitation.
Innocent young girls have become easy prey as these foreigners allegedly entice victims by sending pasa load, a way of transmitting an amount of load through the cellphone.
They introduce themselves as rich foreigners but actually are pensioners receiving small pay and are just taking advantage of the high dollar-peso exchange rate in third world countries like the Philippines.
Through texting, these foreigners make irresistible promises to their prospective victims; like buying a new cellphone, providing school allowance and even tuition. After getting the trust of the victim, they send indecent proposals and later bring them (young girls) to lodging houses or cheap hotels in the city and sexually abuse them.
Most of these young victims don’t tell their experience to their parents out of fear.
An unconfirmed report tell about a high school student, complaining to her mother of abdominal pains but later was diagnosed by doctors as having acquired a sexually transmitted disease.
Classmates said she was always seen texting to her foreigner textmate.
The young girl was reportedly a student in one of the city’s big private school.
Most of these foreigners are also reported to have criminal records in their country of origin and have entered into the country under dubious circumstances using tourist visa.
