November 5, 2006 The Bohol Standard
RECOGNIZING the fast growing tourism sector of Bohol, the Department of Tourism (DOT) suggested to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to hold the Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on Sustainable Indicators in 2007 here in Tagbilaran City.
THIS is known from the letter of DOT Secretary Joseph “Ace†Durano which was received by the office of Gov. Erico Aumentado after he also endorsed the Trans-Visayas Friendship Bridges to the National Economic Authority for inclusion in the Medium Term Philippine Development Program.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on Sustainable Indicators in 2007 which is jointly organized by UNWTO and DOT aims to enhance the understanding, share best practices, discuss critical issues, and identify core indicators for environmental, social and cultural growth of tourism destinations.
This workshop will be valuable to local planners and tourism officials as they will gain knowledge and insights on the sustainable management of the province natural and cultural resources, Durano said in his letter.
The said event is set to be participated by local development planners, tourism officials, and representatives from non-government organizations as well as international organizations. (Jhaz/PGMA)
