TALIBON - The Municipal Agriculture Office recently distributed a total of 1467 bags of rice seeds to marginal farmers here in behalf of the local government unit.
The move was in accordance with the national government's GMA 50:50 program.
Under this scheme, farmers will pay only 50 percent of the total cost of the rice seeds while the national government will take care of the other half as its counterpart.
The program aims to provide a variety of high-quality seeds which marginal farmers can use during the second cropping season.
It will also assist local rice-producers increase their harvest from the certified rice seeds.
To benefit from the project are farmers from barangays Sikatuna, Suba, San Agustin, Santo Niño, San Carlos and San Roque.
The seeds distributed are of the RC 74 and 82 varieties.
Meanwhile, the LGU recently received P150,000 representing the first release of the P1 million allocation of the town from the GMA Cares fund of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
This amount will be used for the improvement and rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads. (ONAD MUNALEM)
