The electorate will know within the next six days on who are running for the May 14 elections, from the senators down to the town councilors.
The Commission on Elections has not confirmed reports that the deadline for the filing of the certificate of candidacy have been moved to Feb. 28, 2001.
In a check made with the office of Provincial Comelec Supervisor Rodolfo Abarquez, it was learned that until the close of office hours last Friday, there was no official word on the reported extension, thus the deadline is still on Feb. 12.
If is sticks with the original deadline is still on Feb 12, 2001, poll have barely six working days left to file their respective certificate of candidacy.
As of last Friday, there was no certificate of candidacy filed so far in any of the Comelec offices. Observers noted that this is expected considering that the gubernatorial dispute between Gov. Rene Relampagos and Rep. Erico Aumentado has not been settled, thus, the municipal slates in the 47 town mayors have not been finalized as well.

The campaign, for both local and national bets will wrap up on May 12, two days before election day.
In the coming May 14 polls, the nation will elect 12 senators. In the provinces, 208 congressmen will be elected, 78 governors, 78 vice governors, 1,610 city and 722 Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, town mayors, 1,610 vice mayors, 912 Sangguniang Panlungsod members and 12,232 Sangguniang Pambayan members.
