LOON - The municipal government of Loon - under the dynamic stewardship of Mayor Cesar Tomas Lopez and Vice Mayor Raul Barbarona, is presently embarking on an ambitious program to educate and provide technological skills for its employees, particularly on the use of the computer.
Mayor Lopez disclosed that the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - Tubigon, in coordination with the LGU, is conducting the Skills Training on Basic Computer Learning Course. The sessions are held at the air-conditioned Sangguniang Bayan session hall.
The course is coordinated by Conrado Montuya, community training and employment coordinator of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Programmed to have a duration of 160 hours, the course begun on Nov. 8 and will tentatively culminate on Dec. 15.
Classes are held on weekdays, Monday to Friday, after office hours from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.
Saturday classes are held the whole day from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays classes are held half-day either from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon or 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Montuya revealed 44 municipal employees enrolled in the course - 20 regulars, 18 casuals, and six Department of Education (DeptEd) teachers from the Loon South and North districts.
The municipal government tapped the services of Jerome Orcullo, a former computer instructor of the Sacred Heart Academy, now a regular municipal employee to handle the course.
Course activities include orientation, lecture and hands-on training on the basic parts of the computer, windows application, and lecture and hands-on training on the Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
Mayor Yul Lopez, Vice Mayor Raul Barbarona, TESDA-Tubigon Center Chief Floro Rinca, and Florencio Bitang, TESDA-Tubigon coordinator graced the course's opening program on Nov. 9.
In a related development, the local government unit of Loon recently sponsored a seminar-workshop on Cooperative Development on Dec. 5 and 6.
Participants included Mayor Lopez, Vice Mayor Barbarona, SB Kagawads Clovis Nazareno, Indong California, SB secretary Fidel Coritico, and department heads of offices including MPDC Boy Ganados, municipal treasurer Perfecto Mante, MSWDO Alicia Razalo, municipal assessor Jesse Sevilla and MAO Nita Suello,
