The Story of Gisela May “Jiji” Apalisok
Love of My Life

Published: December 03, 2006 by The Bohol Standard

“Happiness is like a butterfly, you run after it, it keeps flying away, but if you stand still, it comes and sits on your lap.”

Jiji Apalisok is known by almost everybody, people both from the elite and the commoners.

She was the Special Project Editor of the weekly English paper Sunday Post and worked with the Social Security System, Members Assistance Center in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines.

Lady luck brought her to the land of milk and honey and she is now based in Houston, Texas happily married to American Charles Leggington, who works at The University of Texas - MD Anderson Cancer Center (the biggest cancer center in the whole United States of America) as Pharmacy Technologist.

Here is the story:

Charles and I started talking each other in the month of June kana gyud talking through the phone intimately na nagkauyab mi. He proposed through the phone marriage but I just didnt give so much attention kay basin binuang ra. Charles never missed a single day calling me 4 to 5 times a day. During the day we talked 2 hours (4 to 5 times na ha) then at night... from 11:30Pm to 8:00AM the following day. Grabe no binuntagay! Then I began to miss him, and so with him.

Mingawon nako niya if he failed to call 4 times. Then he invited me to come down to Houston, Texas and offered me a round trip ticket to Houston.(New York to Houston). Imagine ha ingon ako friend one in a million gyud si Charles kay diri wala gyud mo offer nimo ug round trip ticket especially kon makig meet ang lalaki nimo. But Charles took the chance coz he really wanted to see and meet me. My ticket was booked on July 21, 2006 aboard Continental Airlines. I arrive in Houston July 21, 2006 at 10:45PM.

I was met at the airport by Charles and Diane Ramirez and Ram-Ram Amper. We proceeded to Diane's house in Houston. We arrived at her house at around 12:00 midnite. Then at 1:30AM of July 22, 2006, I was shocked because Charles knelt down and offered me the wedding rings as he proposed marriage. Sus nakahilak gyud ko kay tininood gyud diay iya.

He put on the ring in my finger as he uttered... JIJI WEAR THIS RING AS A SIGN OF MY TRUE LOVE, CARE, AFFECTION.... Then I also put on a ring to his finger and said the same to him. Sus nihilak jud kog samot. Then, He scheduled right away our wedding on Monday, July 24. We secured the marriage license and nangusog gyud si Charles makasal mi dayon on that day.

It was raining very hard nabasa kaayo siya. He waived the 72 hours requirement sa kasal kay if you get a marriage license naa may 72 hours period before mo makasal, meaning kaslon mo after 72 days pa. But Charles was persistent na kaslon mi dayon.

So he executed a waiver na e-waive niya tong 72 hours. We could not find a judge na mokasal namo kay puro busy. Ana na gyud July 26, 2006 at 1:00PM mi nakasal. Our marriage was administered by JUDGE ZINETTA A. BURNEY, Harris County Justice of the Peace at Riggs Road, Houston, Texas. Sus grabe gyud uy, kasal dayon.

Our love story is different.

Kana bitaw uban magkadayon is through the internet or suwat-suwat, but ang sa amo through the telephone. We were really burning the lines. Mas nindot ang magkauyab mo thru thephone kay you will feel the feelings. Sus si Charles always express his feelings as... "Jiji you give me life, you give me inspiration and the motivation to go on. Jiji you are my reason to live.... Jiji you give me strength. Thank you for coming into my life."

Swerte gyud tingale mi and God maoy nag tagbo namo. I asked God for his intercession and ask for sign bitaw... asking: "God if Charles is the man for me na hinatag nimo na ma akong bana please give me sign and the sign is manawag sya karon karon dayon... then nanawag jud siya!

Charles has bought a house for me... his gift to me. We moved in last Oct. 15, 2006. We are very happy and we feel our love growing stronger every day.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
