BWUI alarmed over stolen water metersOct. 29, 2006 - Bohol Standard
FOR THE past few weeks, Bohol Water Utilities, Inc. has received several complaints from their consumers on stolen water meters.
In the last 2 weeks alone, 7 units of water meters of consumers were stolen from different parts of Tagbilaran City particularly at CPG North, Mabuhay Village in Dao and in Poblacion 3. Since August, 2006 18 units of water meter were stolen and about 42 units since January, 2005 which replacement cost worth about P60,000. This kind of criminal act is reaching its alarming level and is persistently continuing. The management clarified that it will not tolerate this bad practice.
Arrested theft will be charged in court with violation to the National Water Crisis Act of 1995. While BWUI authorities are doing their best to address this problem, water consumers who are victims and victims-to-be are requested to report the incidence to BWUI, to their respective Barangay Chairperson and the Police Station for appropriate action. The public is also cautioned to be vigilant to help in curbing such act.
BWUI appealed to the owners of junkshops not to buy stolen water meters and sought the help of other waterworks system in the Province of Bohol not to accept second hand water meters of those applying for water service connections in their respective area.
